Generally not. Just reduces the advertising value to nothing in my eyes as I will avoid looking at the banner ads when non-wargaming ads appear in bulk. |
Texas Jack | 23 Dec 2014 3:25 p.m. PST |
I logged out and had a look at these things, and while they are not so intrusive, they really are not a good idea. If I were an advertiser here, I would expect a discount to compensate for the unexpected competition. |
tulsatime | 23 Dec 2014 3:40 p.m. PST |
Please, NO. I enjoy TMP because of the lack of the creepy, annoying pop up adds. There are some adds that show up on other sites that make me feel ill. I do not click on the adds, I just can not stand the pictures that they use. The adds of that type also make it hard for pages to load and slow down the website. They also screw up my phone when I try to look at some websites. TMP is so well behaved that I use it as a standard when I am testing how well the internet is running. Please, if can be avoided, be careful with your adds. I have been willing to pay for my membership because I like the subject matter here and the page to me is well designed and easy to read and navigate. I just afraid that some types of adds could easily screw it all up. |

No, I do not. I'm not happy about having on-topic ads either but what's a guy to do? |
20thmaine | 23 Dec 2014 4:04 p.m. PST |
No – I would not want them. At least on TMP all the current advertising is actually of potential interest. |
sneakgun | 23 Dec 2014 4:13 p.m. PST |
If it helps keep this forum alive who cares, as long as none of them make noise, have Kardashians, Flo, or medical ads, especially male enhancement….. |

What Sneakgun said.I never click on them, anyways. |

I'm with sneakgun. If they help fund the site and keep t available for my reference, I am a happy camper. |
Fried Flintstone | 23 Dec 2014 4:57 p.m. PST |
If it was 'spam' advertising I would expect that paying members shouldn't see them. That is the way it works everywhere else |
Deeman | 23 Dec 2014 5:02 p.m. PST |
No. I come here for gaming news. Don't water it down with off topic ads. |
platypus01au | 23 Dec 2014 5:03 p.m. PST |

Rrobbyrobot | 23 Dec 2014 5:12 p.m. PST |
I'm very much against off topic ads. |
elsyrsyn | 23 Dec 2014 5:13 p.m. PST |
I'm generally against it, but I don't care too much either way – my eye has become so blind to banner and sidebar ads that it matters little to me. Doug |
whitejamest | 23 Dec 2014 5:42 p.m. PST |
I think they're a perfectly reasonable way to fund this resource that people can use for free. Every other site I go to has them, so they don't bother me. |
wrgmr1 | 23 Dec 2014 5:52 p.m. PST |
I treat off topic ads as piffle anyway, so they don't bother me. If Bill needs the revenue, then why not? |
doug redshirt | 23 Dec 2014 6:11 p.m. PST |
As long as they keep this site going I don't mind. |

I would rather they weren't there, but if Bill needs them to keep the Wolf from the door, how can I say nay? I like visiting TMP and would see it continue. |
Bandolier | 23 Dec 2014 7:13 p.m. PST |
Against. Seems to somehow cheapen the experience here. |
Nick Bowler | 23 Dec 2014 7:29 p.m. PST |
The revenue from adds that aren't clicked on is almost nothing At least if we are having off topic ads, can we sanitise them somehow? |
Allen57 | 23 Dec 2014 7:48 p.m. PST |
My PC has problems with all the ads. Delays access to the info I want to read or prevents me scrolling until the ad is fully up. Would prefer they not be here but agree with Twilight Samurai. |

I'm not logged in on my phone, and they're ugly. Glad I'm a paying member, I guess. More on topic, and less ugly, please no flash, video, etc. I come to TMP for the staid and somewhat ancient interface. I prefer fairly non-intrusive and only paid advertisers of a gaming nature. A deeper discount for "industry advertisers" for top banner ads is a good idea, if the googlebotspamming is to continue. |

No thank you! But I'll keep my opinion on what the extra revenue is for so I won't get banned. |
artaxerxes | 24 Dec 2014 12:09 a.m. PST |
I've blocked them, so it isn't a problem, but that fact should tell which way I swing on this. |
Martin Rapier | 24 Dec 2014 1:08 a.m. PST |
Many sites generate revenue from advertising, they are easy enough to block. Everyone hates intrusive advertising so the question in the OP isn't really fair. How about, "Do you accept that TMP has to exist in an increasingly competitive world and may need to generate income from advertising" |
MajorB | 24 Dec 2014 5:06 a.m. PST |
How about, "Do you accept that TMP has to exist in an increasingly competitive world and may need to generate income from advertising" But TMP has had banner ads for years – from wargames companies. It's the off-topic ads most are objecting to. |
warwell | 24 Dec 2014 5:31 a.m. PST |
I like seeing the banner ads for gaming related products. They've introduced me to interesting products I would otherwise never heard of. For non-gaming stuff? I would just ignore it, plus I would miss out on some cool gaming products. Going to non-gaming ads would not only annoy the TMP community, it would actually hurt the gaming industry. |
HammerHead | 24 Dec 2014 6:31 a.m. PST |
No, I`m seeing these already on TMP |
nazrat | 24 Dec 2014 6:38 a.m. PST |
No!!! This may be the straw that breaks my TMP habit. |
Florida Tory | 24 Dec 2014 7:44 a.m. PST |
No. I frequently look at the on-topic banner ads now, and do make wargaming purchases as a result. If they were mixed with other ads, I would ignore all of them, as I do now on other sites. I will not take the time to discriminate between them. Rick |

Ads that would be ok, Games and minis, tools for same, stuff for making terrain, glues, paint, books about war in all its forms, books about history, Sci-fi books, stores that sell any of these things, craft hobby stores etc, …… auto insurance, banks cards, smart phones and porn sites not so much |

Tgunner | 24 Dec 2014 9:01 a.m. PST |
They're annoying but I generally ignore them anyway and it's easy enough to do. I guess I'm okay with it if it helps TMP. |
Dn Jackson | 24 Dec 2014 9:12 a.m. PST |
