Is there a set of rules that is similar to the Red Sun/Blue Sky series for the modern jet age?

Looking for rules that allow for at least 6-10 planes on the board at one time…not terribly bogged down with stats but still gives a decent feel of realism and is hex'd base.

I'm going 1/600 if that matters :)

Thanks folks

btw….happy holidays to you and yours :)

Oh, and lends itself to solo play!

Why not try the old Avalon Hill "Flight Leader" board game and use 1/600 minis instead of counters? Some fmy most tense and memorable gamimh experiences were had playing that game (especially played "blind") with the umpire controlling the game in a separate room!

I'd also recommend Flight Leader. It's designed to let the player 'fight' the planes and not fly them.

What about AirWar C21?

Do these rules allow for 6+ aircraft on the board and solo play?

Thanks, I'll take a look at Flight Leader

In terms of numbers, C21 is perfect for medium to large games. Solo play is a tougher call – I don't really think rules are the issue where solo air games are concerned – rather it's more about scenario choice and suchlike. No matter what rules you use, you run into the fact that you always know what the other guy's going to do next.

I have played Airwar C21 solo, and it worked out ok. More detail from my blog from a few years ago now: link

Thanks gents!

I'd never argue against C21 :) But I didn't mention it as I thought the OOP discussed hexes

acctingman186922 Dec 2014 4:44 p.m. PST

Ahh, C21 is played w/o hexes?

Yeah, turning uses a template, no hex grid.

shelldrake22 Dec 2014 5:46 p.m. PST

It would be easy to convert to using hexes though acctingman

Thanks everyone. I'll try Flight Leader though. Looks interesting and C21, for sure.
