So I was watching Firefly again and I decided my little mans needed their own propper spaceship. In 5 Parsecs you roll on a table to see what kind of spaceship you get, I got a retired scoutship, refitted as small trading vessel. Here's what I came up with
More pictures when I slap some paint on it. |

Good build, I can get some ideas for 'bits' and what to look out for…….I have recently finished a TV remote control 'shuttle/lander'………. |
Zeelow | 21 Dec 2014 6:38 a.m. PST |
Excellently clever. Nice! |
CAPTAIN BEEFHEART | 21 Dec 2014 6:57 a.m. PST |
What did you use for glue? |
TheBeast | 21 Dec 2014 7:16 a.m. PST |
Looks like pure e. ;->= Course, once you slap paint on, I'll be dining on words. Actually, quite impressive design, all the more so that so much is recognizable. Well done, indeed! Doug |
stroezie | 21 Dec 2014 10:25 a.m. PST |
@ Gaz0045 If you have a question about any of the parts used feel free to ask. Also I'd love to see some pictures of that lander, always fun to see what people come up with. @ CAPTAIN BEEFHEART I mostly use superglue with some hotglue here and there to strengthen it. @ TheBeast Thats what I like about scratch building, that magical moment when that first coat of paint changes that pile of junk into something really cool… …I hope;-) |

Fantastic ship. Would look great next to my Yahtzee Firefly. |
Mako11 | 21 Dec 2014 4:42 p.m. PST |
That's looking really great, and no doubt much better once you get a bit of paint on it. What is the rear fuselage/engine section made of (clearish-white portion)? |
stroezie | 21 Dec 2014 11:47 p.m. PST |
@ Mako11 The "ball" portion of the engine section are the inserts from a toilet roll turned around and glued together. |
Mako11 | 21 Dec 2014 11:51 p.m. PST |
Thanks for the info. Wow, you have much more interesting toilet paper. We just get plain, old, cardboard tubes. :-( |
TheBeast | 22 Dec 2014 4:07 a.m. PST |
Wow, you have much more interesting toilet paper. I think I've sen something similar in the US, but only in a commercial use. Doug |

Great looking scratch-build. Tony |
Gaz0045 | 23 Dec 2014 8:45 a.m. PST |
Here's some hurried shots of my 'scratchie' fleet………the TvR lander, bulk cargo hauler and two LCA's……..GZG Kravak grav's for scale……
|
Gaz0045 | 23 Dec 2014 8:58 a.m. PST |
I wasn't going to build anymore ships but I have been checking out the 'parts' on the OP not-Firefly ……….. now collecting 'bits'! |
stroezie | 23 Dec 2014 9:25 a.m. PST |
Love that TVR lander! I even have the parts for the tail section, I'll have to flag them for my next spaceship build ;-) |
Gaz0045 | 23 Dec 2014 9:45 a.m. PST |
I'm still tinkering with the TvR lander….the battery compartment still opens so I'm figuring out a rear ramp assembly that will fit and allow troops and vehicles to disembark on-table……….no internal detail tho'! So what is the blue 'nose' of your scout ship Stroezie? ( I have figured out most of the other parts or proxies!) |
stroezie | 23 Dec 2014 11:25 a.m. PST |
Well here she is finished, straight from the shipyards, the "Star of Verbena"
You know, a ship like that you treat her right, she'll be with you till the day you die. 8-) @ Gaz0045 the blue 'nose' is the cap of a Nasonex nosespray. |
Gaz0045 | 23 Dec 2014 12:15 p.m. PST |
That is a sweet build! Great paint job too……….all that gold makes it worth the salvage!!:-) |
TheBeast | 23 Dec 2014 1:35 p.m. PST |
She's a beaut! The word eating commences. ;->= Love that TVR lander! Ditto, especially when a bit of upload lag turned it into a bi-wing. Damn, that's all fun! Doug |
War Monkey | 23 Dec 2014 8:43 p.m. PST |
That is a very nice looking model! Very firefly stylish! :D |

These are the first scratch built ships I have ever saw!!! These are REALLY cool guys! GREAT JOB on all of them! I have several remotes I WAS going to throw away!!! Another project added to my to do list! WALLY |
TheBeast | 25 Jan 2015 11:40 a.m. PST |
@Big Wally There have been several unofficial-to-TMP contests in the past. It's been a few years, but a search of posts should find you some more to enjoy. Doug |

stroezie, That did turn out quite well. Great job. That's right up there with my scratchbuilt Ramscoop fuel ship for Full Thrust. :) |
Legion 4 | 26 Jan 2015 10:11 a.m. PST |
Very "Retro" strozie ! Great work too Gaz ! x2 |
TheBeast | 27 Jan 2015 8:04 a.m. PST |
Now, Bill, if you're going to entice, you need a piccie or link! TMP link Doug |
stroezie | 27 Jan 2015 2:55 p.m. PST |
@ billclo That is a great build, I love the industrial vibe of it. Great idea for those fuel tanks, I shall file that away for future reference ;-) |
billclo | 27 Jan 2015 5:30 p.m. PST |
I'm glad you liked the fuel tanker. I wasn't trying to entice, but TheBeast just had to go and put up a link. ;) I've still got a ton of the GZG black bases that I don't know what to do with. They don't seem to have much resale value, but on occasion they can be useful for a scratchbuild. :) |
TheBeast | 28 Jan 2015 9:51 a.m. PST |
And you HAD to perform thread-o-mancy… Good thing I didn't mention the Legos-and-gluestick ship… WHAT HAVE I DONE? Doug ;->= |

TheBeast | 29 Jan 2015 6:44 a.m. PST |
Oh, sure, link a thread that ends with a criticism by me. Makes me look like a curmudgeon… Oh, wait. Never mind. ;->= Doug |
