Agreed. An interesting article. You do get this impression that soldiers in the past were somehow able to deal with PTSD better than their modern counterparts but we forget that so much was suppressed, brushed under the carpet or just dealt with in an unsympathetic way. Another fascinating issue was the description of the aftermath of one battle where the US colonel described the battlefield as having this 'singularly crawling effect' with all the wounded.
