My son is interested in playing a modern skirmish game (current to near future). My time is limited, and I haven't managed to get much painted in the last few years. What options, if any, are there for pre-painted miniatures, cardstock figures, or even plastic figures that come in two different colours? We're looking at modern skirmish, so say U.S. troops versus either Russian or Middle East forces. Scale would be 28mm down to maybe 10mm, with 15mm to 20mm being preferred due to table space. |

You could look for the Battlefield Evolution figures on E-bay or elsewhere. They were "small" 25s as I recall, and not bad for the price. |

How old is your son? You can get cheap plastic armymen in different colors at dollar stores, or are you looking for something more advanced than that? Armies in Plastic makes 54MM US moderns and Taliban in different colors. You have a number of options in 1/72 plastic. Go to plasticsoldierreview.com I am not aware of any prepaints currently being produced, but Battlefield Evolution used to have a line. |

Zerboz military figures come blind packaged one to a box for a dollar each in at least two different color schemes. They are about 28mm, prepainted (just ok) and look like modern us troops. They come in a plastic box that on the outside makes a good piece of barrier terrain (has brick detail and such) and when disassembled can be used as a display area. Each figure also comes with a small piece of vinyl terrain, sign or other battlefield bit. Last I checked, Walmart had them, though it's been about a year since I looked. Here's a batch that I sold early this year, but it will give you some idea of the size since they're on 25mm bases. [/URL] Best of luck. Lastly, the invention of spray paints that are made to adhere to softer plastics means that you can buy a bucket of army men at target and spray them whatever military color you like. My recommended paint for this application would be Krylon Fusion Camo sprays. |

Thanks, everyone. I'm doing some digging. My son turns 16 next month. |

If you are only needing them to come in two different colors…. just buy ANY line of miniatures and prime them two different colors  |

The HeroClix line has some trooper figures and modern-ish police and various civilian types that could be used and at least have various colors on them. You can always pop them off their clunky bases and glue them onto something more modest--or just use as is. Some can be had for really cheap. Like: link link link link link link Of course, none of these are really "modern troops." As noted in an earlier response, the Mongoose Miniatures Battlefield Evolution line of true 25mm, if you can find them, sound like they'd fit the bill for you, though. Rob |

forces of valor do a few 1/72 painted troops but they are not cheap and the variety is small. |
