Last week my friend Lou was coming over to play LOTR Strategy Battle Game. We didn't have a plan other than we would play SBG. At the last minute I decided to do BOFA using what figures we had and what table we could throw together quickly.

In about an hour we had the table laid out and were ready to go. We used the GW SBG rules and not alot of heroes, to keep it simple. We also lowered the Defense values across the board so the fights would resolve faster.

If that's impromptu, I would love to see one of your games that you actually PLANNED on running!

Really impressed by that painted background board. Did you make that?

Xintao16 Dec 2014 3:48 p.m. PST

My friend Lou painted it just before the battle.

Well the game was fun, even if those elves had a suitcase nuke!lol

Great looking game! The mountain background is really impressive for a rush job! I especially like your mat. Is it a homemade one?

He painted that in 20 mins! Awesome! Just incredible!

The only negative is that it is hard to do that big of a battle with the strategy battle game. I would love to see even more figures on your battlefield, but it would probably be almost unplayable at that point.

Blacksoibill, Yes some made. Green Felt, then I took about 3 different colors of green spray paint and splotched it. Then did the same with 3 cans of brown. We also use flock to dirty up the field. And railroad ballast for the road

Landorl, yeah, at 1400 points a side we were straining the rules. We have some large scale battle rules we have been working on for awhile and will run BOFA at Cold Wars.

Erebor building project will start soon.

A fun and good looking game… but can you call it the Battle of Five Armies if the eagles don't show up?

We don't allow optional shields in some games to speed resolution. Btw, looks like a fun game.

Nice board! I'm planning to do much more the same with my 1/72's, what victory conditions did you use? I'm thinkink in making the gate and the ruins of Dale both objectives with killing Bolg or Thorin a second objective.
