Oh Bugger15 Dec 2014 7:26 a.m. PST

Now we have a Colonials Board I thought it would be interesting to see what native armies people have. I expect there will be many with Dervish and Zulus I have them myself but currently my gaming involves lesser known combatants.

Anyhow I have

Sikhs
Persians
Tai Ping
Imperial Chinese
Boxers
Indian Mutiny
Caucasus

rjones6915 Dec 2014 7:32 a.m. PST

I have Hereros, Zulus, Arabs (as opponents of the French Foreign Legion).

Gone Fishing15 Dec 2014 7:37 a.m. PST

I used to have a big Sudan collection, and so had large numbers of Fuzzies and regular dervish types, but I sold them off a year or two ago. Now all I have are Sikhs (in 54mm metal).

The pull to do other projects is a strong one, however, and I could be tempted into doing at least a half dozen native armies--I love their colour and varied troop types! I always have much more fun painting them than I do their British (etc.) opponents.

I have the following for East German Africa:

Generic African Natives

For the American West which in my mind does constitute this period:

Plains Indians which can be Sioux, Crow, Blackfoot, et all.

None; I recently sold off my entire 25mm Sudan collection. I have thought about rebuilding it in a smaller scale, but I don't know …

War In 15MM15 Dec 2014 10:10 a.m. PST

I forgot to include my 15mm Plains Indians collection which can be seen at link

Thorfin1115 Dec 2014 11:55 a.m. PST

Afghan/Pathans in 10, 15 & 28mm
Zulus in 6, 10, 15 and 28mm
Boers in 15 and 28mm
Sudanese/Mahdist in 10mm
Boxers in 10mm

I think that's it.

Bashytubits15 Dec 2014 12:00 p.m. PST

Ansar, Zulus, Afghans, Plains Indians and Boers. I plan to do the boxer rebellion but no figures for that, yet.

slugbalancer15 Dec 2014 12:05 p.m. PST

Mahdists 10mm
Zulus 10mm

So far…

DestoFante15 Dec 2014 1:32 p.m. PST

All in 15mm.

Zulu (Old Glory 15)
Pathans (Minifigs and Irregular)
Dervish (mostly Hadendowa, Minifigs and Old Glory 15)
Abyssinians (Irregular and Tin Soldier)
Arabs (Stone Mountain and Minifigs)
Boers (Minifigs and Old Glory 15)

I have Imperial Chinese and Boxers in the closet, but I have yet to pain them. In general, I try to limit my armies to 12-15 units, which is the max I can handle by mostly playing solo.

Mad Guru15 Dec 2014 1:41 p.m. PST

28mm Pathans and Afghan regulars (a great many).

28mm Boers.

28mm Zulus.

15mm Pathans and Afghan regulars

15mm Imperial Chinese and Boxers.

The 15s.are from WAY back in the day, but I still count them.

Oh Bugger15 Dec 2014 1:43 p.m. PST

True for you Terrement I toyed with the phrase 'non imperial' but where would that leave the Chinese Imperials?

So I opted for native even though everyone is a native of somewhere and everyone has an ethnicity too.

Some nice armies coming up though. Dyacks sound fun. Hopefully we will be reading accounts of them all in action as time goes by.

sjwalker3815 Dec 2014 1:50 p.m. PST

1857 Mutineers and native allies (28mm)
Zulus (28mm) , about 800 of them
Mahdists ((15mm), ' fazands of them

And most of the others listed above either in the lead pile or on the 'to do' list.

Next on the list will be NWF (15mm using Blue Moon AND 28mm skirmish games using Artizan and others) and/or Zulu War in 15mm (Blue Moon and Old Glory 15s) but there's at least 5-6 other colonial campaigns I'd love to cover as well.

Rogues115 Dec 2014 3:04 p.m. PST

28mm
Imperial Chinese and Boxers for Boxer Rebellion (along with nations troops)
Arabs for FFL
10mm Arabs for FFL
Variety of Egyptian, Pathans, British (naval and land) troops and other figures for Pulp.

Folks in our gaming group have other native armies

Jo Jo the Idiot Circus Boy15 Dec 2014 3:26 p.m. PST

I've got several hundred 28mm Mahdists/Dervishes painted up. I've also got a decent sized collection of 28mm Boers for the 2nd Anglo-Boer War. (Yes, Boers are a native force..) I've got a handful of 28mm Maori that I will eventually run skirmishes with.

Oh, and I've got a sizable collection of unpainted Zulus that I will eventually get around to painting.

So far Boxers, Dervishes, Zulus. I'm starting to work on Crimean war troops (are Russians natives, or Turks?).
