I am looking for citations from primary source, but secondary might have to do, for average daily march distances during the WSS.

I suppose such information from the NYW will give me what I need as the terrain covered was pretty much the same as the later war.

Any help is appreciated.

If Marlborough's march to Blenheim is viewed as an exceptional march of 250 miles in five weeks, that would indicate about 50 miles a week, or 7-8 miles a day. In extremis, probably 12-15 miles in a day could be achieved for a very short period of time, say a couple of days.

This can be found in many sources.

I don't think that rate changed much for the 18th or early 19th century.

The Army of Marie Theresa by C. Duffy cites 8 miles a day with every third or fourth day a rest.

There were exceptions such as Hadik's raid on Berlin (15 mi) and Loudon's raid later in the war which averaged 20 miles.

Useful information can be found at Millward's link for the earlier period.
