Now for something Really BIG…… 'NeNow' Hercules Drop-Shuttle.
Is based on the foam card Hercules shuttle design by Neil Nowatzki [http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=319071]
After being provided with plans I have redone the design for 2mm MDF. Size: 60L x 40W x 15cm High Pod: 34L x 15W x 7.5cmH, Bay Doors 6x6cm. To make the Pod Doors operable, will need small RC plastic hinges & some 2D x 1mmH round magnets. I am doing a Vehicle pod design with two 12cm doors on each side, will sell both as a whole kit & a separate interchangeable pod. Price: £40.00GBP (takes several sheets). Regards MMG. [www.madmechaguy.co.uk] Should I rename it the Canada Class? |

As a friend of mine on Facebook suggested, the Hercules might make a good CapShip for use with 5150: Fighter Command or 5150: Carrier Command |

So, at 28mm scale this looks like a great dropship for 15mm. Those bay doors look big enough to offload 15mm vehicles being 6CM across. You can probably get at least a medium tank or armored vehicle in there. Man… figure out what postage is going to be to the US. Multi-scale dropship…. yes please! |

Dear Maj Diz Aster Allowing for box & bubblewrap one would weight 1.6kGs so postage: £19.00 GBP. Can sent two (approx 3kGs) for £19.50 GBP or three for £23.05 GBP (go on you know you need 3!). It is ready now, have modified the design slightly in adding a etched hatch on both side of hull near cockpit. Regards MMG. |

That's not bad at all… any way we could get a photo with a 15mm figure next to it? This is awesome! |
Mad Mecha Guy | 11 Dec 2014 10:32 a.m. PST |
Will have to take pictures tomorrow (night time in UK) & a bit too big to photograph on table. Haven't finished the vehicle pod design just yet, have to tweak the internal walls so can keep extra couple of walls for strength. Regards MMG. |

Thanks for the shipping info MMG Have to see how much "discretionary funds" will be available from my next paycheck O Canada… |

Yikes that really is a beast… the surface detail looks really good but im not to sure about the etched F1 designation on the side fuselage but other than that it really is a very impressive piece. The two external gun turrets can easily be sourced from a wealth of model kits as was mentioned in the original post, i am looking forward to seeing a couple of comparison photos next to some 15mm vehicles and troops just to grasp the real dimensions of the massive monster i reckon that you could probably play a small scinario on the surface of it. zac |

The F1 & W5 weren't supposed to be there, just forgot to delete them when doing cut (oops). there are 3 hardpoints turrets, one is under the chin. |

Have already corrected the cutting layout to remove these along with a couple other tweaks. |

I might just get one to use as a gaming board for 6mm, it's definitely big enough! |

Well. Add this to my "someday" pile. Might be a good centerpiece for a Nostromo on LV-426 type table for some aliens goodness too. |

Those bays look as they could handle 15mm Mecha as well. One could reduce the hieght of the bay doors a bit to give the idea of more space for crew quarters. |
Cergorach | 13 Dec 2014 5:46 a.m. PST |
I'm curious how this will look painted. How well the etching confers panels and details… |
AVAMANGO | 13 Dec 2014 7:58 a.m. PST |
If your a half competent painter with a few skill i think you would be able to make the model look like something a bit special a watered down layer of wood glue to seal the MDF and a few coats of spray primer and you will be good to go, the etched detail looks to be deep enough to take several paint washes and dry brushing about them. A project this big just need some pre planning for example not only do you have the outer fuselage and general surface to paint weather and add decals but you also need to think about those plain looking cargo/ hanger bays they are just screaming to given a interior garage theme and that cockpit needs a clear or tinted perspex screen fitted behind the strut frame work to. It looks to be a daunting job but once started and your into the swing of things i think it could be completed in a reasonable time period. :) zac |

How about if I also did a Mini-Herc? A half sized version with interchangeable pod for couple of tanks? Have finished the design for the vehicle pod. |
War Monkey | 14 Dec 2014 8:34 a.m. PST |
Half Size would be rather cool, I would think? the larger one could be the like the C-5 Galaxy and the smaller one could be like the C-130, just a thought. ;) |
Lardie the Great | 14 Dec 2014 4:04 p.m. PST |
Hopefully the mini herc will be useful for 28's as well, can't believe that there aren't more 28mm dudes excited about this… maybe they didn't read the dimensions. |
arngrimson | 14 Dec 2014 4:15 p.m. PST |
MMG could you increase the width of the pod slightly? As I would like to have a cargo pod that could carry some of your containers in it, I was thinking of either 2 or 4 cargo holds (either 1 or 2 a side, with a separate cargo door for each hold probably 60mm wide/high?) with a 40mm section in the middle with catwalk/stairs bulkhead either side doors on ground level so crew can get to & inspect cargo in flight. 60mm for container 40mm crew area inc bulkheads & 60mm second cargo area so would need to be at least 160mm wide, or maybe slightly more, instead of the current 150mm. |

I would love to get the full scale version it would look magnificent on a large 6x4 games table, but i know i would have issues finding somewhere to store it. Now thinking out aloud here but would it be possible to re-design it so that it could be stored away and slotted together again in maybe two or three sections when needed? |
Mad Mecha Guy | 14 Dec 2014 11:30 p.m. PST |
AVAMANGO It can be stored in three sections: Main Wing – would need to glue the upper & lower engines onto it to hold together. Best to glue some plastic strip/panels across joint on top of wings (would be hidden inside upper engine block. Pod – have to build this as a separate block anyway. Front fuselage: this has to be build as a separate piece when assembling the model. With a bit of fettling it could be made easier to slip on & off when needed. The Winglets (tailets?) - can be held in place with magnets if needed, would need to file the lugs slightly so can more easily remove them arngrimson Could do a larger pod as a separate item, but not able to enlarge within the whole drop shuttle cutting template (no spare space). In 15mm, using the vehicle pod version, can get 8 of my 9x3x3 containers on each side. Did not post on 28mm as did not think '28mm'ers would of been interested, but have done a version for 28mm by adding a etch larger airlock. |

MMG when can we order this beast ? Cheers Matt |
Mad Mecha Guy | 18 Dec 2014 3:51 a.m. PST |
Though not added to website but can be ordered now. I have designed the vehicle pod, two doors(11W x 6cmH, each side. For 15mm version have etched a hatch on either side of front fuselage & done a 28mm version (same size but with bigger hatch & slightly bigger windows) Regards MMG. |
