We're very pleased to announce that we have completely redone our range of 15mm Garn reptilian aliens.
These hulking tyrannosauroid carnivores are sculpted larger so as to have a more appropriately menacing presence on your tabletop, more poses have been made available, and the sets are in more rational allocations. The new sets are:
Garn warriors with the basic infantry arm, the 20mm assault cannon -- a set of six in six poses (yes, only five are shown -- the sixth pose is in the comparison picture below):
Garn warriors with heavy weapons -- a set of four in four poses (laser cannon, missile launcher, flamethrower and plasma gun):
Garn unit command -- a set of five in three poses (two commanders, two comms specialists, and a single casualty):
Garn Flesheater giant heroes -- these chaps are huge! (one pose with a flamethrower I would not want fired at me at all, and another with a plasma cannon, and we do mean cannon):
Garn hegemon, the aristocratic clan within Garn society (this model is basically the player):
Here's a comparison showing the size of the models against each other and against a human infantryman. Left to right, a Flesheater, the Hegemon, a warrior (the sixth pose not shown in the image above) and a human infantryman. The Garn are versatile SF models as not only can they be used as towering alien Reptilians in 15mm, but also as human-sized aliens in 20mm gaming as well. And dare we say that the Flesheaters could be used in 28mm gaming? (They are in fact 28mm tall.) Even the rank and file warriors could be useful in 28mm gaming as "The Race" or other smaller reptilians in popular books. The rapacious, cunning Garn have conquered other predatory sentient races and a selection of these will be released shortly. In fact, their most common slave-warrior race has already been available for some time -- the Felids. The new Garn are available now, at the link below. link |

now i have to decide whether to replace my old garn or to use them as a different species, because i definitely want these…….. |
Eli Arndt | 10 Dec 2014 8:52 a.m. PST |
Awesome! I love the Garn. These new poses look like they would blend well with the older figs but I love the added details. -Eli |

I like these, but I'm more interested in the human trooper on the far right of the comparison shot? Is that one part of the Federal Special Forces range? |
tberry7403 | 10 Dec 2014 9:12 a.m. PST |
Well done! |
khurasanminiatures | 10 Dec 2014 9:14 a.m. PST |
Yes zonk, he's a Federal Navy SPAR trooper. |

Nicely timed…I needed some 20mm alien adversaries. |

Hey Jon, If you are looking for a light flying unit with a similar looking tech to your Garn, might I suggest something like…

zonk76 | 10 Dec 2014 10:28 a.m. PST |
Federal Navy SPAR, yeah, that's the one! I'm looking forward to their release!!!! |

…and now I know how I plan to spend my Christmas cash! I gotta have those Garn, dog-garn-it! |
cloudcaptain | 10 Dec 2014 11:35 a.m. PST |
The older smaller castings could be used as Garn juveniles. |
Ron W DuBray | 10 Dec 2014 1:05 p.m. PST |
I like them just not the way over sized heavy weapons |
Bashytubits | 10 Dec 2014 1:18 p.m. PST |
Does this mean the Garn vehicles are being re-done also? |
BlackWidowPilot | 10 Dec 2014 2:15 p.m. PST |
OK. So my original Garn will simply transfer to the tanks of my JTFB project, as these new Garn are simply irresistible! Jon, you've outdone yourself by orders of magnitude this time… Leland R. Erickson Metal Express metal-express.net

I'm seeing an interesting battle between Khurasan's Garn and Loud Ninja/Eli's Chu-huac! |
sharkbait | 10 Dec 2014 4:45 p.m. PST |
Those are sweet. I do like the old Garn still, but these new ones are pretty awesome. |
Stryderg | 10 Dec 2014 4:45 p.m. PST |
Are they all left-handed? |
khurasanminiatures | 10 Dec 2014 4:54 p.m. PST |
Bashytubits, had a start on it anyway. The combat rafts really failed to capture the imagination of the gamers so have been phased out. The big armoured vehicle of Garn surface forces is the GAU. TMP link The Felids, one of the subject races of the Garn, also have got a transport mecha called the Stalker. TMP link |
Twoball Cane | 10 Dec 2014 5:45 p.m. PST |
I like these, but like the originals alil more still. Those mecha are wicked sweet….I think if someone wanted to game voltron, those cats might look the part purrrrrrfectly
|
Mister Tibbles | 10 Dec 2014 7:18 p.m. PST |
The originals were far more menacing. These have the "guy in rubber suit on the Star Trek Original Series" vibe. But I love the Rogue Trader look! I'm in! |
Bashytubits | 10 Dec 2014 7:30 p.m. PST |
Well I have to say I am a little disappointed,I hate the VOLTRONesque stuff. But different strokes for different folks I guess, the new Garn however are terrific! Hopefully the old Garn will still be available because I really like them also. |
seldonH | 10 Dec 2014 7:35 p.m. PST |
Those look really good, the detail is fantastic! Francisco |
khurasanminiatures | 10 Dec 2014 10:13 p.m. PST |
What's "Voltron?" Is that some 80s cartoon? I grew up in the 70s so no habla voltron. These are mecha. Human mecha are shaped like humans …. I have sold one pack of old Garn in the past six months, so nostalgia for them is … interesting …. |
Eli Arndt | 10 Dec 2014 10:40 p.m. PST |
As long as they have been out, a pack in six months seems about right for the biz as far as I have been told. I am not a fan of the mecha either but I know there is a market for them, so go for it, especially if the original direction wasn't cutting it. |
khurasanminiatures | 10 Dec 2014 11:14 p.m. PST |
Actually the Felids have been out about as long as the Garn and they sell lots of packs every week. |
McWong73 | 11 Dec 2014 12:17 a.m. PST |
The GAU for me is the biz, is like one of my childhood Zoids, but meaner. Looking forward to the new Garn, I held off on buying any of the older versions once word of the resculpts was out, and it certainly looks worth the wait. |
Chatticus Finch | 11 Dec 2014 4:46 a.m. PST |
I think the remake has been a smart move. The other Garn were good, however these really bring out more character and are much better refined. The heavy SMGs/rifles/slug-thrower guns actually look like guns now, which is great! I was umming and ahhing on buying Garn for my universe, but now I'll find a place for them once I sort my human and AI forces! :) |
erraticassassin | 11 Dec 2014 9:07 a.m. PST |
The flamethrower guy is just ridiculous, and the casualty figure looks like he's been captured midway through a wicked dance-off. Other than that, these are really nice. There's more variety of pose and a more homogeneous look than the previous versions. Not keen on the vehicles so much, but there are other options out there. It would be nice if the old versions could hang around, because they're still good, characterful sculpts, but if it's a choice between that or releasing a bunch of the stuff that's been previewed but never released, I have a fair idea where public opinion will land… |
Cacique Caribe | 11 Dec 2014 10:12 a.m. PST |
"These hulking tyrannosauroid carnivores are sculpted larger so as to have a more appropriately menacing presence on your tabletop" "be used as towering alien Reptilians in 15mm" Well, I guess that's one way of selling 28mm figures to 15mm gamers, and so as not to have to produce a range specifically made for 15mm players. Dan |
khurasanminiatures | 11 Dec 2014 10:24 a.m. PST |
You've got it the wrong way round I'm afraid! It's funny that you choose to make a comment like that, though, considering how eager you usually are to use models nominally of a different scale in your 15mm gaming, or should I say, your online discussion of 15mm gaming. |
MrHarold | 11 Dec 2014 10:27 a.m. PST |
I have to say, they look suitably scaled to 15mm to me… the larger ones should work for 20mm too. Probably too small for 28mm (of course as aliens they could be anything)? The warriors look especially well scaled as a hulking 15mm alien. And I have to say, that comment directed towards Khurasan is a little off-putting, if only for the fact that Jon has done some many amazing lines in 15mm. |
khurasanminiatures | 11 Dec 2014 11:21 a.m. PST |
Cheers Harold, and McWong too, though I also didn't know what a zoid was when this was designed! I remember people bringing it up when the first previews were posted. Yes erraticassassin, the big flamethrower is, well, big. It actually wouldn't be that heavy though, as it's mostly hollow tubing. |
Cacique Caribe | 11 Dec 2014 11:24 a.m. PST |
Then why retire the older "smaller" range?
(Garn on far left)
(Garn figure is the one right next to the human)
(Garn second from right) linkTMP link Khurasan: "considering how eager you usually are to use models nominally of a different scale in your 15mm gaming, or should I say, your online discussion of 15mm gaming. wink" Not sure how relevant that last comment of yours was. Do I have to be a current gamer to speak up? But if you must know, though I haven't played in a few months, I've never stopped buying figures or making terrain for them. And, until recently, I've done some sculpting for 15mm and 28mm. Does that count? Dan |
khurasanminiatures | 11 Dec 2014 11:25 a.m. PST |
Because they were no bigger than many of the 15mm human ranges coming out, and I think the sculpts are a bit too cartoonish to achieve what I wanted to accomplish with the Garn. Which I think I said in the original post. Even if scale creep continues they will still be comfortably larger than humans, as they are supposed to be. |
Helena Bottom Farter | 11 Dec 2014 12:34 p.m. PST |
Big flamer croc reminds me of what the Heavy would look like if he were the Pyro. :) |
Bashytubits | 11 Dec 2014 1:35 p.m. PST |
I am surprised to hear that the older Garn sculpts are not selling. I actually have quite a few of them but have not ordered more until I get around to painting the one's I have and deciding on a rules set to use. Sorry you did not care for the VOLTRON comment, no offence was intended, I have personally stated many times about what a fine product you offer and am grateful for the imagination of your figure lines. |
khurasanminiatures | 11 Dec 2014 1:57 p.m. PST |
No worries, didn't not like it! It's just funny to me that I'm making things influenced by existing imagery and I don't even know it exists! |
BlackWidowPilot | 11 Dec 2014 4:45 p.m. PST |
I LIKE the originals…
… and I LIKE these new Garn equally , as I don't believe we should be limited to a mere handful of reptilian alien types to crush those scum-sucking humans trying to intrude upon reptilian territory…

Bashytubits | 11 Dec 2014 5:12 p.m. PST |
I'm with Leland, how can you not like carnivorous giant lizard guys with attitude and really big guns? |
Lion in the Stars | 11 Dec 2014 5:16 p.m. PST |
Both old and new Garn look pretty cool to me, though I could easily declare the old-Garn to be a different species entirely. If they aren't selling, though, by all means put them either on an extended hiatus or pull them OOP entirely. While I'd prefer an extended hiatus (like what DP9 did with their GearKrieg and Jovian Chronicles minis, and so I can buy some when I have an income again), if the return isn't even breaking even, it's not worth it. |

I use my Garn and Meso-ani together with CMG giant tracked tanks. |
Bob Runnicles | 12 Dec 2014 8:05 a.m. PST |
I'm sad that the old Garn combat skimmers never sold, I *loved* the look of them on the site and was crushed when you told me they were no longer available. I thought they looked suitably menacing, wish I'd been interested back then they WERE available and maybe they still would be now ;) |
