I've just posted pictures of another finished battalion on my blog. This one is the 1st Battalion of the 44e Demi-Brigade using Blue Moon French wearing Greatcoats and Bicornes.

There are also comparison pics of the Blue Moon figures mixed with AB and alongside Warmodelling.

More pictures and some information on the 44e and Gen de Div Gardanne on my blog here: link

Thanks again for looking.

That's a good-looking miniature battalion.

Colin,
Very nice work.
Q when did these units officially convert 1 co of 9? to Voltiguers and thus acquire those color distinctions/plumes?

I believe the formation of Voltigeur companies wasn't official until sometime in 1805, and that some units (Davout's Corp??) didn't form them until after the completion of the Austerlitz campaign – that being said, I suspect that by having voltigeurs means that an extra command stand allows the use of the battalion from the issue to the 1794 pattern flags right up to the end of the Friedland campaign for some and into 1808 for others, that's what I've done with mine ;-0. There is a long and distinguished history of French Regimental commanders sticking up 2 figures to official uniform regs anyway, so it is not beyond the bounds of possibility that the use of elite company adornments pre-dates the official introduction, since there is also a long tradition of official regs normalising current unofficial practice.

Nice looking unit!

Colin,
Great looking units, and I noticed the Officer, Standard bearer, and the drummer all look to be AB figures. I have a complete Division still to paint of AB figs in bicornes and greatcoats, part of Davout's Corp for 1806.

I've never been 100% sure about the voltiguers. I've a couple of battalions still to paint that won't have them, but I've seen so much conflicting evidence that I wanted to include them anyway.

VonBlucher, yes those are AB command figures. The Blue Moon ones have eagles and I couldn't be bothered trimming them down to make proper standards for this period. I really like the officer but I'm expecting to lose his sword at some point.

Nicely done Colin

I was concerned that the bayonets might be too stubby looking, (I do appreciate that Blue Moon took breakage into consideration though), but you photos indicate they look just fine. Its' a fine looking formation you have there! Thanks for posting those photos. John Miller

The bayonets on Blue Moon do look stubby, but only when you put the figures next to other brands. They look right on the figures, and as you say, are more robust.

Thanks for all the comments guys.

Good painting with great effect, the ABs look very nice, about BM I have mixed feelings

I really like painting the figures from Blue Moon (plus I really like the price tag on their bags of miniatures). If I had the time and spare cash I would happily redo the Austrian battalions I painted earlier using Old Glory 15s and use Blue Moons instead.

I'm planning on getting a few early French Legere from Blue Moon. Those look really nice.

Anyway, here's some Blue Moon Austrians to try and convince you they are nice figures….

Eclipsing Binaries: I see what you mean about the bayonets. Thanks for the comparison photo. John Miller

Very nice painting – the Austrians look better than the French with hats, still far behind AB in my opinion, what a rediculous swing with the right arm – punching your neighbour into the stomach – I stay fully committed to AB and Sho Boki

Eclipsing Binaries13 Dec 2014 7:11 a.m. PST

I have loads of AB in my collection, and will be buying plenty more when I have some spare cash.

I love Sho Boki's figures as well, but I'm going to wait until he does Suvarov's 1799 Russians (hint hint!!).
