The attack on Gundigan was one of the opening moves at the Battle of Kandahar (Baba Wali) on September 1st 1880.

Thanks for all the comments. This game followed pretty much along with what happened historically. It was played on just a 5 foot by 6 foot table and it was a lot of fun. We used Two Hour Wargames "Colonial Adventures" rules with a little bit of tweaking. Changed rule so that muskets and jezails could fire but then had to use the next firing opportunity to reload. Whole game took about 2 1/2 hours after set-up to finish of game. |

I like those hills in the background. What are they made of? |

Fantastic looking game, Bob, thanks for posting all the pics!!! I recognize your piper of the 72nd looking sharp in his glengarry and green doublet! Do you have plans to refight the next phase of the Battle of Baba Wali/Kandahar any time soon? I'm sure I speak for a lot of us when I say I'd love to see that too! |

Saltflats- the hills are some sort of resin. They come painted that way and are from Paragon Scenics 54mm line. |

Mad Guru – I fought Gundamullah Sahabidad (spell it differently each time) and Gundigan so you wouldn't have to. I will leave the final phase of Kandahar to you as you will have all the terrain you need when you finish up Charasiab. I am going to focus on the elephant limbers for 40 pounder guns next. Got a bunch of parts from different things that I can cut up and reassemble into something that looks the part. Need two more of the Foundry draft elephants and I should have all that I need. Yes, the green coated piper finally saw action. |

Where did you get the stone walls? |

DontFear – I made the walls myself out of air dry clay. If you do a search of TMP for "Afghan Walled Garden with Entryway" I did a step by step explanation of how I made one of them. |

I really like your game, particularly the terrain and figures. I especially like the way you have inserted descriptive text into the photo. It makes it easy to follow the action and view the figures and terrain all in the single photo. Well done! P.S. What method/program do use to insert text into photos? |
Rhingyll | 08 Dec 2014 11:02 a.m. PST |
IronDuke I use Paint to insert the text and then upload it via postimage (just search web). I upload them one at a time.I browse my photos then copy it via postimage. Then I just hit paste to show photo on TMP in message board. It is simple once you do it a few times, was a little confusing at first, but if I can master it, anyone can. |

Fair enough, Bob! Last night I got done painting the ground cover on my Kabul River board, so it shouldn't be too much longer. Once that board is done, by combining it with my Logar River boards, I should be able to lay out the Arghandab River all along the 10' or -- if I build a couple more 2'x2' straight river boards -- 12' length of the table, then fight the battle across the shorter 6' side, placing Ayub Khan's army with their backs to the river and my wood-chip hills serving as the Pir Paimal and neighborhing rocky heights to their front, with the Murcha and Baba Wali passes waiting for the British to force their way through. |
Rhingyll | 09 Dec 2014 4:19 p.m. PST |
Mad Guru – I am already looking past Charasiab to the Arghandab River layout. Your work is superb. Do you use the Sword and the Flame rules for your battles? |
Mad Guru | 09 Dec 2014 4:38 p.m. PST |
Yes indeed I do. For big battles like Charasiab, Kandahar, or Maiwand I use the movement and command & control rules from "Eight Hundred Fighting Englishmen", the "big battle" variant of TSATF, which speeds up the rate of play. |

Thanks, Rhingyll, your work is terrific also! |
