Howdy,

I have a number of dropships in 10mm from Hawk Wargames orginially created for Dropzone Commander. The clear plastic bases provided with the models are, in my opinion, inadequate – often missing the center of gravity for the model, or being poorly fitting.

Anybody have good, easy ideas for fixing this situation?

Ponder on,

Litko do clear hex bases in different sizes and various lengths of clear rod "flight pegs", plus flight peg toppers that you can glue to the underside of the model.

I think it's Ninja Magic who make magnetic flight stands. Topgun makes a pretty beefy version on a telescoping antenna base, but that's probably overkill for what you want.

How large are the dropships, and what do they weigh?

As mentioned by Lion, I have some 3-D Flight Stands that will work, but they might be larger, and more expensive than you need, or desire.

Most of the ones we sell are used by gamers with 1/144th, or 1/300th scale aircraft, but they can be used with a lot of other stuff as well, e.g. other aircraft scales, diecast metal spacefighters (as shown, for X-Wing and Battlestar Galactica), spaceships, grav tanks, dragons and other flying creatures, superheroes, etc., so they'd work very well with your Dropships too.

Our standard Topgun, Dogfight Flight Stand models come with a swiveling head, on a telescoping antenna, that extends from 7" – 22" in height, and with the option of 3", 4", or even 5" clear acrylic bases.

See pics below, for the range of motion they can permit, as well as how they look in play:

Attachment to the minis/models is with strong, rare-earth magnets.

I also have a simpler, fixed-head model antenna that telescopes from 4.25" – 19" in height. It does not permit the models/minis to be represented in climbing, diving, or banking flight.

For lower levels, I suggest just simple, clear-plastic flight stands for minis you want to display as hovering at low level, or just taking off, e.g. lower than the 4.25" option mentioned above. Again, for these, you can just glue rare earth magnets to the center of gravity of your models/minis, and to the top of the flight stand(s), as desired.

The rare-earth magnets permit quick attachment, and detachment, which helps speed gameplay.
