Just curious to see if anyone is currently using this set of rules for their Cold War era wargames, or if they have in the past? link They sound quite interesting. I saw them mentioned last year, but couldn't find much more info than is on the pages of the link listed above. Apparently, it appears that the first link, with some of the data is broken, since only a portion of the pages were viewable (but those do look interesting). I'd also like to know if they include aircraft and helicopters vs. armor in the rules? I know the helos can be targeted by the vehicles, based upon some of their sample pages, but would like to know more about how airpower is covered in them. I'd also like to know if West German troops and armor are included as well (based upon the summary listing, that doesn't appear to be the case, since they aren't specifically mentioned, but perhaps that is just an oversight)? They sound like a decent set for a good game, at least for players with Canadian, British, American, and Russian forces. |

Isn't there a site that sells a prettied up copy of them? I've been tempted though I imagine it'll be pretty dry :) |

As mentioned above, JohnC has republished these: link they are essentially a redone WRG 1950-85, which might also be an option. |

They're a quick bloody but realistic feeling game; interestingly Soviet tactics work well with them, which isn't always the case with other rules. No aircraft rules but helos are covered with data cards for Honda and cobras. No German stuff except gepards and Canadian leopards I'm afraid. I'd be surprised if there's not a Yahoo group out there with the info you need though. Interesting info on Soviet organisation and tactics included with the rules.Worth a punt I'd say. |

As they are the WRG 1950-85 rules with the charts simplified, you could just add what you want from the original rules or just use the original rules. PDF link |

I actually used these a few times in the 1980'sa when still serving on a couple of Command Post or TEWT, exercises including one where a Canadian Mech BG (think 4CMBG) tried to hold off a Soviet Tank Division. It wasn't pretty, or as latto6plus2 puts in "bloody." I was playing a Company 2ic and I think we had one M-113 with less than section of infantry left by the beginning of the second day, when the Battaion Comd ordered us to counter attack. I was "dead" by then and lying in a ditch. If memory serves they were a uesful training aid for the time. I do have a copy of the updated rules and should dig them out to see if they work with my 3mm Pico stuff. |

Fair play to you RJ; Id never have gone near a tank, let alone get in it after playing these! |

I do remember we were tucked off in an office or classroom with radios and field phones set up as outr Company CP while they used a drill hall across the street as the main map/game area. I wandered in after being "killed" and they had controllers using what looked like those long handled shuffle board things air traffic controllers used in the Battle of Briatin move to "move" swarms of 1/285 BMPs, BTR 60s and T-64, T-72 s etc across the table where our BG had been. :( |
