Comments or corrections?

I was looking at the photo of the Minifigs 12mm scale, BMP-1 Russian IFV on their website, and it appears to me that the slope of the frontal armor is far too vertical, compared to that of the real vehicle?

BMP-1

Can anyone that owns these, or has seen them comment on that, or is it perhaps just a trick of the angle from which the photo was taken?

That's doesn't appear to be the case, based upon what I am seeing, but would like the opinion(s) of others.

Here's a link to what they real BMP-1s look like, and as you can see, the lower front hull piece is angled quite sharply on the real vehicles:

Is the slope of the front hull piece on their BMP-2 more angular (correct, and not as vertical as that of their BMP-1)?

BMP-2

That appears to be so, but again, it is hard to tell from the angle at which the photo was taken.

Mako,

I don't have their BMP-1, but the BMP-2 looks pretty sharply angled to me:

I agree with you though, that the BMP-1 looks pretty steep.

I'll shoot some photos of the -1 after work.

Do these help?

Good stuff, Cold Steel, you're alright for an Army guy! I didn't realize you were a fellow 10mm guy.

10 mm is the One True Scale for armor. You might as well play a board game for smaller than that. People playing larger scales are just compensating for….other things.

Thanks for the replies, and photos, or links to them. I really appreciate it.

Those do help.

I think I see the issue. It's that the nose on the BMP-1 doesn't slope downward at all on the upper "glacis", and the front piece extending beyond the front treads appears to be too short (it should extend beyond the front wheel by about the same width as that wheel's diameter). That makes the lower front piece look too vertical, which it is, due to the above issues.

You can really see that, when looking at the side-on pics you've provided, and the line drawings of what the real one looks like.

I like Minifigs, and I too am a "12mm true believer", but there are the occasional model they've gotten wrong.

Check out the width of the Tiger tank turret, for example.

If you get a 15mm BMP you won't have to worry. Even if you are compensating!
