A few hours ago I received the second edition of Irregular Wars by Nicholas Wright from Amazon. It arrived in two days, delivered to my door by the USPS . . . on a Sunday afternoon.

I'm impressed by both the handsome and clear format, and by the rules themselves. They include lists for Sengoku era Japan, Joseon Koreans, Ming Chinese, and the Manchurians. Each list is quite plausible historically, and it would be easy to construct historical refights using lists of my own construction.

I'm very pleased with IW 2nd, and eager to begin giving them a try.

I ordered the first edition when it came out and enjoy it. Not sure if there is that much different in it to get the 2nd Ed. I don't own a lot of choices of armies so getting new army lists isn't high on my agenda.

I've not heard of it. Tell me about the rules. What period does it cover?

… and I believe that people who ordered Chance Cards are starting to receive them now too :)

My own Chance Cards for IW just arrived this afternoon. I opened a small package to find fifty-two attractively printed cards in a neat plastic case. Very nice!

During the last couple of weeks, two of my Japanese clans have been remounted to fit with stands appropriate for playing IW. Admittedly, I fudged a bit, and mounted everything six to a stand, on 40mm x 30mm bases. The rules call for 30mm x 30mm bases, but I just like the look of the slightly wider and more populous stands with my Japanese. During the Christmas break, I'll be playing a few solo games in order to learn the rules. They seem to work very well for the Sengoku era.

I'm also lucky enough to be able to work on a small Royal English army for combat in Ireland. Those will be mounted on the more official 30mm x 30mm bases. The castings are the old Table Top figures, now sold by Viking Forge in Powhatan, VA. Excellent service and very clean castings.

Delighted your cards arrived Wulfgar. I'd love to see any shots of your armies when they are done.
