For the last couple of years, I have used a ping pong table (5x9) as my wargames table – when my kids weren't using it for it's intended purpose. So after about 4 years I went to Home Depot and made my own table – only 4x8 because of the size of plywood. Of course, my kids haven't played ping pong since I built it two months ago |

I covered my ping pong table a few months ago, after 15+ years of gaming because it was showing signs of wear. The vinyl I covered it with, will extend its life for several more years. The best thing about a ping pong table is that it is 9' x 5', not 8' x 4'. Depending on your gaming scale, the smaller size may work, but for me, the larger table is a luxory I won't give up. Cheers, and best of luck with your new table! |

I liked the size too. I play solo and also like big battles – so the extra room was nice Oh well – 4x8 aint so bad |

I tried everything from suspended tables above the garage to tables under the bed. For the first don't do it, it the ways it will lead to disaster are innumberable and for the latter, you will see your troops devoured by dust bunnies. Now what I do is I have made sectional tables 3 ft by 48" long. These are made from cheap pine boards available pre-cut at any home improvement store. (I use the ones for paint-grade table tops. They are made from loose ends from the lumber yard and have a nice "block" effect when lightly stained and varnished. These boards I support with two pieces of angle iron cross-wise underneath, and with a pair of metal table legs The whole material for each table is abut $25.00 USD the largest cost being the legs. I made eight of these which means I can make all sorts of table configuration from a 6 x 16 foot table, down to only one or two, and can make T shaped and L shaped. Further at that dimension they can be stored in the back of a closet or easily stacked up in the garage. I also use them as a long dining room table after the game, running them togehter the long way. And-- THEY ARE MUCH EASIER TO HANDLE THAN BIG BULKY BOARDS AND TABLES. When I move to Maine I will make a low hutch to store them in, behind a set of book cases which swing out and form a shelf above for display. |
