Searches keep getting NAVWAR results but those links don't work. As noted in title I need miniatures sources. I have many German and a few 1/300 Brits but want French aircraft since they made up the majority of aircraft the Allies produced in WW1 according to the initial library sources I find. |

I think Heroics and Ros have the Navwar range now. C in C over in the US also do 1/300 WWI aircraft I think. Not much French in 1/600 though – Tumbling Dice have a couple of early war bits – Nieuport 11, Morane L and a Farman, while Odzial Osmy do a SPAD XIII, Nieuport 17 and a Breguet. |

Found the Hard Cover Rand McNally Encyclopedia of Military Aircraft: number of Aircraft built during the war – France 67,987 Britain 58,144 (9,943 less – a reasonably close level of production) Germany 48,537 (Wow, I knew they made less but not 77,594 less!) Italy 20,000 (more research is needed…) USA 15,000 (really, lots of trainers? I don't think too many USA combat aircraft were used, were they? And I know produced doesn't mean fielded.) Austria 5,431 (well, I guess they gave the Russians a run numbers wise) Russia 4,700 (see Austria comment) Clear breakdown of "tiers" of production… The lack of French Fighters might say something about perceptions of us American and British war gamers… perhaps? East Front and Italian Front aerial combat seems a good subject to add to the research/reading list. |

Mr. Skelton, Thank you for the leads. No pun intended. MS-23 – Spad S XIII Spad S XIII $3.50 USD MS-28 – Hanriot D-1 Hanriot D-1 $3.50 USD MS-73 – Nieuport 11 "BEBE" Nieuport 11 "BEBE" $3.50 USD Since I don't need many these (if in stock) are going to be seriously considered. I have a starter set or two from Tumbling Dice but the super glue doesn't hold for shear stresses – trying two part epoxy next. |

link We built a lot of DH-4s that saw use in the war. I know of Dayton-Wright because my grandma used to work there during the war. |

Dom? Your last transmission "broke up" – say again. |

I was confusing myself with conflicting references, so gave up. Short version is that while the 15,000 US built includes a big pile of DH-4s (4,000+), only about 600 of them made it to units in France before the armistice. Similarly the large numbers of Liberty engines built didn't actually amount to large numbers making it to the front. In terms of actual impact, the Curtiss Jenny trainer was probably the US aviation industry's biggest contribution to the war effort. |

In response to Mute Bystander: Superglue seemed to work just fine. A problem that I found with two-part epoxy was that it tended to be rather insecure. Triplanes in particular seemed to be more prone to losing the upper wing when secured with epoxy glue, but those with superglue were far tougher. A major problem for me is that epoxy glues can take longer to dry than superglue, so an insecure setup results in a rather wonky wing arrangement. |

What I find helps with assembling multiwing stuff in 1/600 is to use a ridiculously tiny bit of blue tack – pop that on one surface, and superglue on the other, then press together. |

In 1/300 (1/288) there's a fair bit of French stuff at Shapeways now via the Reduced Aircraft Factory: link Der Kampflieger (Shapeways) might have some French stuff too. Irregular is another source for WWI a/c but I don't recall much about their French a/c, in any case I'd go with it last. You can also troll around for Goblintooth (1/285) on ebay or elsewhere. Skytrex also had 1/300 aircraft but I'm not sure where that line landed when Skytrex went under (maybe H&R). FWIW C-in-C aircraft are lovely pieces of art, but you will go insane putting them together and you'll want to minimize handling when they're done. |
