Hey everyone, I was wondering what the opinion of TMP would be on using Gripping Beast dark ages warriors as 3rd century BC celts / gauls would be. I would do a shield swap, both so the shields would be historical, and to be able to use transfers for the celts. But I mean they seem to be using slings, swords, and axes, all weapons celts used, and they are dressed in a generic tunic and pants, so I was thinking, hey, maybe they would work as rank filler for some celts. Thoughts? |

You mean the Gripping Beast plastic Dark Ages warriors? With the correct shields they would be perfect for Celts IMHO. There might be a single head you can't really use but that would be it. |

They generally look the part – maybe more like rank and file Dacians, given the leg binding things (whose names I forgot), which seem to be worn in later times. I'd say that Warlord Celts would be the best for the rank and file soldiers (esp. if you can get some of them out of those hunched poses) but, given the high amount of slingers you can form from this GB box (32), I'd say that their best role would be the slingers and javelinmen of a Celtic army. Normally you have to buy those in separate packs. But I think they'll still work as rank and file too. Thanks for the idea. I'll keep it in mind when I finish two other armies and need to start another in order to find a place for my money to go. |

Yeah I am not fond of the hunched poses of most of the warlord guys, or that they seem to stick their arms out wide with their shields and spears way out to the sides. They are super dynamic for a skirmish game i think, but for a large block I am not sure how I feel about the warlord dudes, even if I do plan on buying some of their shields. I plan to use them as Celts in my Carthaginian / Roman armies I am building with the new Victrix stuff, since both sides used them as mercenaries. Mostly Carthage probably. I would buy metals, but they are sort of expensive for the numbers I need them in, and the warlord guys dont look the best in ranks, at least in my opinion. |

Yes, with the Warlord you'd have to be careful about how you rank them. I plan to get some eventually to test out. I think I would cut some of the hunched ones from their bases and pose them stepping onto/ running over rocks, stumps, logs, etc. to make them more upright. Just an idea. If you can get the old glory 40% deal, they have some decent looking Celts in the Caesarian line and in the Carthaginian line too…I don't know how they look alongside Victrix units. But if you've gone so far as to you've probably already explored that option. |
