Hi I'm currently making a map using the MS Paint in MS8.

When I save my map it's fine. But if I want to save it as another file name – e.g. map stage two – it says, if I do, that all transparency will be lost. I've used a thick MS marker pen to go over hex lines as borders between provinces. The lines of the hexes show through the marker's line.

I quite like the transparency (I'm used to old MS Paint, so this is very new to me) – does it print transparent if transparency it is maintained by not saving as a new file?

I can't do an experiment because I'm waiting for an order of ink to arrive.

Please help!

James

you need to save to a file type that supports transparent layers. Not JPG , something like PNG

thanks, just checked and that seems to have worked and kept transparency.

Beware png! Portable Netwrok Graphics files are great for online graphics but they are not the best for printing. Try tif instead.

You can also "save as" and give it a new name. Then you can simply look at the new map using any picture display program. If the lines can still be seen, they will be seen on the printout.
