My interests often lean toward the more obscure conflicts of any given period, so it is with great pleasure that I found a monograph on the War of Polish Succession. John L. Sutton's "The King's Honour and the King's Cardinal" has been reprinted. It had been out of print and asking prices for used copies were ridiculously prohibitive. The paperback goes for around $40.00 USD which is still a little steep for a relatively slim paperback, but well worth it. Very well written and easy to read and full of all sorts of info. Not as specific on military matters as I would like but very entertaining nevertheless.

Is it a history of the war or just a fictional story?

I would love to read about the war of the Polish Succession.

Strictly non-fiction, extensive foot notes and the use of French and Austrian Archives. The "Memoires du Marechal Villars" and "The Feldzuge des Eugen von Savoyen feature prominently among a myriad of other titles.

There was another, much older history of the war, written (I'm not kidding) by the Crown Prince of Siam!

I bought and read this book and enjoyed it immensely.

I thought there was plenty of military interest although the actual military activity was not that much. It is interesting though that at that time you were thought to be a better general if you could achieve your military objectives without actually fighting a battle. A succesful siege produced better political results with less loss of life.
I would be interested if anyone else has read this book.
