My chum and I played another game of Warhammer Fantasy Battle

Good stuff!

Looks like a good game. It sounds like things went south for your opponent with the dice in a big way.

From your narrative it sounds like he lost both his sorcerer and his giant pox-spewing monster to unlucky die rolls and that his tough warriors were not able to use their magic related powers to their best.

I guess that is what you chance when you play Chaos.

The sorceror that was killed was mine!
High rolls for winds of magic are bad for the Chaos legion's opponents, and low rolls are bad for the Legion.
But yes, generally he had bad rolls and all the luck was mine.

Sorry about that. Misunderstood on the sorcerer.

It does seem like your giant did rather well though. Giants are a tough foe to face but they are also a touch weapon to use if they don't roll well, they can be tied up by solid but cheap troops that just won't break, like Dwarfs.

Still you can usually choose not to engage them them as you can out maneuver them.

Shooting phase, Bloab fires up the stonethrower, and misfires! Now there is nothing specific in Glottkin about this so we hit the ST misfire table, I roll a one. Bloab is dead. We both scratch our heads. Is that right? 415 points gone.

Which is why you should never take or even buy one of these overprice models.

415 points could have been spent to buy more units.

But no, he decides to bring one of the Big-Ass models to the battle and it dies doing basically nothing.

I wouldn't say that, it sure looked pretty cool on the table. Plus the giant is about the same size and it stomped a unit of chaos guys out of existence.

Mithmee24 Nov 2014 7:08 p.m. PST

The giant model did not cost as much in points or to buy.

For some of us the aesthetics and simple pleasures of toy soldiers are at least as important as efficiency.
Steve liked the model, enjoyed assembling and painting it and it looked terrific on the table.
The fact it blew up in farcical fashion on its second turn rather adds to the charm in my view (Stephen may not be so amused I admit).
I know there are more "optimal" choices, but that's not why we play the games. Generally we err on the side of more units (though again, frequently not the "best" choices). I think for our next game we're going for 3k so we can have big things AND more soldiers.
Fortunately WFB is a broad enough church for us all to get our jollies whichever way suits us best.
Tom
