The Germans used inflatables for foot bridges (I like the Baueda bridge) but if you are looking for vehicle crossings they would be over boats – square ended pontoons but in the early years they were also using pontoons with tapered bows.

The best I could do was make my own … bridging unit

The decks were of planking but of course the bridge should have railings* but I didn't put them on as it kind of limits what bases of troops/equipment will fit on

*German pontoon bridges had sides, Russian ones usually did not …

Phil thanks for the inspiration. I placed an order with Baueda a month or so back and bought their wonderful wooden bridge, but as far as I can see the pontoon is a later war US model (the inflatables are good, but the decking is very US style). I have seen both inflatables and the punt style pontoons on footage and photos, and I guess I'll have a go at making them myself. Thanks everyone.
