Difficult to say. We haven't yet actually seen what is inside the trucks, moving in or out.
"Vasilieva estimated that as many as 4,000 Russians have died in Ukraine, based on information she has obtained from her Facebook group"
But she doesn't distinguish between:
1. Serving Russian personnel
2. Russian 'tourists', retired, ex servicemen, etc
3. Ethnic Russians ordinarily living in Ukraine
Of course, while Russia may not actually be sending troops, it's failure to secure the border from the Russian side has severely exacerbated the situation. Turning a blind eye as to who is crossing the border and entering the fight is pretty much as bad as sending them…
Whether or not they are being sent directly, Russia has to remain consistent that they are NOT sending anything into Ukraine, because the public backlash could be considerable:
"According to the survey, 68 percent of Russians polled "do not want their sons to fight" in southeastern Ukraine on the side of pro-Moscow militants. Only one in seven—13 percent—would support their sons doing so."
However this was interesting:
"The poll also indicates that Russians are skeptical of the Kremlin's official story regarding the involvement of Russian forces in Ukraine. Just 13 percent of Russians accept the government's claim that no Russian forces are fighting there."
The centre carrying out the poll was threatened with closure.
