I just wanted to take a few minutes to address a subject which has come up: is there a way for people to support TMP, in addition to buying a Supporting Membership or (for companies) buying advertising?
* can people make a donation to TMP? (I'm not sure how that would work, especially in terms of taxes – it's certainly not deductable)
* can you donate to support an editor?
* can you donate to support a specific aspect of TMP?
* can you donate money for our charity fund?
I don't know the answers, but my guess is that we would have to get more organized on this end to make that possible. I'm open to suggestions and information.
However, one thing that we can do right now is make it easier to buy gift memberships. There are now two buttons on eligible member profile pages: Membership Gift and Anonymous Membership Gift. Click on them, and you are taken to a page where you can select a level of membership as a gift.
Who is eligible to receive a gift membership? Basic and Supporting members. (For Supporting Members, it will be a membership extension.)
With a Membership Gift, the giftee will be told who the donor was. If you want to give anonymously, use the Anonymous Membership Gift button.
The gift buttons allow you to reward your favorite members with increased access on TMP, and the money goes to support TMP. I thank you for that, as does our staff (and our future staff).
