With 2014 being the 100th Anniversary, have you noticed more interest in wargaming this period?

a. Yes, I definitely am seeing more WW1 gaming this year.
b. No, I have not noticed more WW1 gaming this year.

If you have seen more, please indicate specifics.

Privateer4hire19 Nov 2014 7:58 p.m. PST

Yes.

Specifically, Battlefront released two army boxes and a 1918 supplement for gaming WW1 this year.

a, more minis including the first attempts at plastics.

A)

Khurasan offers several sets of WWI miniatures for 1914. He offers British, French and German and is working on Russians.

I have in that sense, it seems like manufacturers are pushing it a bit, but not more from gamers. I didn't see much except at night but it didn't seem like Fall In or historicon had any more than usual Great War games.

I don't remember Cold Wars well enough to comment.

skippy000119 Nov 2014 8:46 p.m. PST

Yes, so far the war in the air and naval though.

Joep12319 Nov 2014 8:55 p.m. PST

Yes, I have.
It got me to pickup the Great War Spearhead 2 rules and 6mm BEF from Baccus.
I'm also looking at smaller scale fights in 28mm.

Yes

Certainly more stuff from manufacturers but we continue to do just as much WW1 gaming as we always did.

We did our 1914 anniversary game in 2013, just too boring to do it in 2014….

Sigwald20 Nov 2014 5:26 a.m. PST

Yes.

I probably would have passed on the period myself this year until I saw the beautiful Khurasan Minis!

Sysiphus20 Nov 2014 6:12 a.m. PST

Yes. Our group is really enjoying Axis and Allies 1914 boardgame. It does have miniatures! And we blew the map up to 4x4 feet to give us some room.
I am painting 20mm IT Miniatures for the Austro-Italian fronts.

Yes – I have seen new WW1 products from several brands and also several games at conventions.

I started a WW1 project in 10mm with Pendraken and I am considering a few of the new Mutton Chop 28mm figures.

Oddball20 Nov 2014 6:02 p.m. PST

Yes, very much. I like it also. Good to see more ground combat games.

kallman21 Nov 2014 8:55 a.m. PST

Yes, I have seen a lot of more minis in both 15/18 mm and 28 mm but in terms of games not any more so than normal. That might change given all the new stuff that has come out. You have to allow time for folks to purchase, paint, and build stuff before you will see it being run at conventions.

Old Contemptibles21 Nov 2014 3:57 p.m. PST

Must be a rhetorical question. Of course there are more WWI games at conventions and in local clubs! Yes there are more new sets of rules and scenarios. It's 2014! I will go out on a limb and predict there will be more in 2015-2018.
