DBA 3 has measurements in base widths so should work. However I haven't played so can't recommend |

Polemos' S.P.Q.R. sets all measurements in base widths as well. Designed to use 60x30 bases for each unit I think it would translate very easily: link |

Have played DBA3 with Impetus bases. Works very well. |

Might of Arms uses standard WRG/DBx bases in units of 3 or 6, but there's no need for them to be separate bases and you could do them Impetus-style as a single big base. |

Hmmm…the TMP ate my post. I'll second Might of Arms. My own Ancients D6 works with chunky bases. For 2X2 WRG bases, double the ranges and rates of move and assign strength to each unit (2, 3 or 4). link Try Chipco FR!. Also would work with chunky bases in the same manner as AD6. Go with FR! Tournament and Campaign edition. It gets back to the simplicity of the original game. sabersedge.com/chipco.php |

Would also have to go with DBA. Being able to measure with base widths now enables this and it would enhance the game visually in my opinion. |

We often play CnC Ancients with big based units (on Kallistra 10cm hexes), they'd work for the Neil Thomas Ancient rules too although you'd need to keep track of losses. |

Have you tried Basic Impetus? That may sound daft but all the complications that spoil the full set of Impetus rules are missing in the Basic version, leaving only an elegant set of rules that are a joy to play and which need only a few additions like rules for evasion to make them the best set of rules for Ancients I've come across in decades. If you haven't tried them, have a go! |

Neil Thomas, Ancient and Medieval Wargames. The Kindle Edition is just fine. That uses Impetus frontage in 15mm. You can track hits instead of removing sub-bases, as you would of using DBx-squared. |

I have to agree with the above suggestion of Basic Impetus. I like it quite a bit, and there's really not a serious problem expanding the armies they list out to larger forces, or using it as a multi-player game. Plus, it's a free download, so there's that. |

Expanded Basic Impetus Army lists – we prefer the full Impetus army lists on their Beta List pages or those published in the Extra Impetus booklets. We use armies of 50 VBU strength points with minimums a third of those on these lists rounded up. When we use 28mm figures we don't double movement but only increase by 50% since that's the difference between 15mm and 28mm frontages. So it becomes the same game but with bigger figures. |

I reckon "Rally Round the King" from TwoHourWargames would also work. It's designed to be playable with any basing, but the default unit has 40mm frontage and default table is 4'x3', so scale up for Impetus bases. Whisper it quietly, but when I find some time I'm going to have a go at grafting the C2/reaction system from RRTK onto Impetus for solo games. link |
