Hello, I guess you could say I am a newbie. I used to play various wargames and board games in my youth and started to form a Napoleonic Army in my late 20s but life got in the way and it got mothballed.

Scroll forward 20 years and I have moved to a house with a seperate garage building which is effectively a man cave. I wondered what to do and after considering various daft ideas like project cars decided to dig out the miniatures. Having put them away pre Internet and returned in the digital age it has been like opening a vast treasure chest.

If you are still reading then you are probably thinking "get to the point man". It is this; I live in Thanet, Birchington to be precise and wonder if there are any gamers or clubs in the immediate vicinity. I know there is Friday Night Fire Fight Ckub in Canterbury and I may well pay them a visit but it would be good to see if there is anyone closer to hand.

Thanks for reading and indulging me.

There used to be a Warhammer club in the cadet building in Vale Road Ramsgate. i think they met on a wednesday.
do you know the marlowe innovation centre in Ramsgate? There is a small shop there that only opens on saturday. i think he runs a club on tuesdays.
and a couple of us meet at St Nicholas on weds.

yoakley15 Nov 2014 3:16 p.m. PST

Im a Gamer that lives in Birchington, Thanet, what scale are your figures ? I have a 28mm French army.

Hello,
I have probably 75% of what is shaping up to be a 15mm French Army. The units are drawn up for General de Brigade rules so large numbers of figures per battalion.

On a seperate note I live in Minnis Bay to be precise and wonder if it might be possible to get a small group together to hire Kearns Hall or the United Reform Church once per week.

Montbrun20 Nov 2014 5:49 a.m. PST

I live just up the road from minnis Bay by the ice cream parlour and doctors surgery
I too have the General de Brigade rules, the De-luxe version which i think are a superb, slick set of rules and which are the ones I rate the best. however.
I moved here in 1992 and until four years ago I thought I was the only Gamer in Thanet I only Know of four others and myself who have Napoleonic armies, of that four, two have plastic 28mm British armies and i have no further contact with them another one has a French army and the last has a 15mm British,Spanish and French army. but after some private issues, has given up on wargaming totally.
I have been to a couple of clubs here and tried to introduce general de brigade Napoleonic gaming but got no
interest.
As for hiring a church hall, I found in these clubs there are many who are quite happy for you to do the buying, collecting and painting the figures etc while they turn up when they feel like it and use your stuff having put little or no effort into it themselves let alone spend any money on figures.
So I wish you luck

Oh dear, does not appear too promising at the moment then. However I'm willing to persevere. It looks at the moment as if you and I would have difficulty mounting a fight due to the disparity in scales and the fact we both have a French Army. I intend to put together an Austrian Army soon so perhaps things will improve then.

It seems you probably have greater gaming experience than me and so I'd be interested in talking to you about the hobby. I'm currently puzzling over how to construct a gaming table in the garage so would value some advice. So if you fancy meeting up for a chat sometime let me know.

Montbrun20 Nov 2014 12:19 p.m. PST

Yes I'm quit happy to meet up,mornings are best for me
Let me know when and where

As you can see from your frequent visits there are not a lot of takers, Napoleonics seems to be a thing of the past except for us older gamers and i think with the introduction of plastics and with them being so cheep its rang the death knell for 15mm. There is also the spectre of the 6mm Napoleonics (Adler, Baccuss) for really big battles and little space, I use them also
