Hello all, am looking for suggestions for 15mm Anglo-Saxons that will mix well with Essex figures. I don't need a huge number; I just want to expand a DBA army for Dux Bellorum.

Cheers,
Aaron

Why not carry on using Essex?

Have a look at Donnington's Age of Arthur when painted they fit quite well with Essex and they are great figures or for a more precise fit go to Donnington new era range top class stuff. Outpost have a fantastic Saxon command pack again it will fit with Essex.

Have a look at Baueda's extensive range of early medieval figures.

They are sculpted to match Essex.

This might help (from a Slingshot project I'm working on)

I find all the normal 15mm ranges mix quite well from Peter Pig to Museum Miniatures … Chariot Dark Age Germans are well worth a look and Donnington NE are excellent …

In this nearly complete DBA Viking project, Essex are freely mixed with Donnington, Black Hat, Museum and Peter Pig, Irregular, Khurasan etc. – I think it all works fine …

That's a very handy comparison there Phil.

Thanks chaps, some excellent suggestions!

That's a brilliant comparison you have there Phil. Many thanks for posting the pics, and Will look forward to the Slingshot article!

& MajorB – I do like the Essex ranges, but variety is the spice of life :)

Cheers,
Aaron

Splintered Light Miniatures will have some Middle/Late Saxons coming out in the next month or two if you are interested in waiting. They are at the mold maker now.

Careful with Baueda. My experience is they are all over the place in terms of height and stockiness, even within a single factions range.

just to be certain, you didn't overlook Essex' "Dark Age Western European" codes, did you? They're for some reason listed in a different catalog than the "ancient" Saxons:

…I'm rebasing all my old Essex Saxons, with these mixed in for much-need variety.

And I can vouch for SL's early Saxons fitting Essex.

I am a little confused. One post indicates Baueda mix well with Essex while another urges caution. I was myself considering Normans, Vikings, Anglo Saxons using both ranges.

With respect Splintered Light, they are listed as 15/18mm so I assume they are more 18mm.

Splintered Light's historical stand at 17mm, which actually puts them right in there with Old Glory 15's, Essex (at least the ones I have), Corvus Belli, and a few others.

I forgot to mention Feudal Castings 15mm range again a good fit with Essex.
