Hello Everyone; I've been kicking the idea around of doing some horror gaming in the French and Indian war time frame. I've been doing the research on Native American myths and legends to try and give this a North America feel for the game. I've been trying to find monsters in 15mm (or even 20mm if it match somewhat well with 15mm) such as wendigos, etc. Has anyone tried this before and does anyone have any suggestions? I've collected some monsters already such was werewolves and satyrs from companies such as Splintered Light (love the figs for sure). However, I would like to try and give this game more of a North America feel to it with the type of monsters and creatures that these legends were about. Any suggestions on what is on the market out there now to consider? |

Just had a quick search and found this, I think it's pretty cool if weird, might be quite large too. I present Reaper Miniatures Wendigo! link |

a year or so ago I ran a FIW skirmish where an indian shaman and his really horrible daughter had to sacrifice some white captives to release a monster upon the encroaching Europeans in the area . I used a sasquatch and it did not end well when the sasquatch was summoned and paid his respects to the rescuing party. a good time was had by all players and it came down to a very close finish but the natives did win. |

Other possible ideas, depending on whether you want to represent this/that tribe. Indian tribes supporting France included the Wabanaki Confederacy, Algonquin, Caughnawaga Mohawk, Lenape, Ojibwa, Ottawa, Shawnee, and Wyandot. Indian tribes supporting the British included the Iroquois Confederacy, Catawba, and the Cherokee prior to 1758. link |

This really has peaked my interest. Sorry for all the 28mm stuff (especially because I am also a 15mm guy) but I kinda like the idea of some huge beast lumbering through the pines and out of the mist towards a trapper's shack or settler homestead or log fort. I suppose there is some use in it being FIW rather than generic colonial, with war you have cannons! - link - link - Like the Wendigo link - link I just sort of like the idea of Vengeful Indian Spirits coming back as hulking crude undead. - link - Ehhh… link - The Land is reacting to the sickness of war link |

Cheap plastic cowboys and indian toy sets. They are about 54mm tall, which makes them great giant ancestral spirits for 15mm (or 28mm) when painted up nicely. Black with florescent light blue drybrushing or flourescent white with dark blue drybrushing are good spectral schemes. |

Here's one that is truly unique: it involves white settlers moving into a "cursed valley" that takes its toll on them. imdb.com/title/tt0085515 |

During the early colonial period the ideas of witchcraft, the Devil, and Indians were closely intertwined so, it is reasonable to extend this witchcraft out to to the F&IW era, in which case witches flying around on brooms (Indian allies) are not out of the question, so you should look at the Old Glory Blue Moon witches that are in their horror range. I've toyed around with the idea of Indians, witches, werewolves, scarecrows, etc. battling the local villagers and militia. |

link Above is a scenario I wrote featuring three sisters defending their homestead from a French and Indian war party. The raiders didn't realize the sisters were witches… AAR here: link Bob |

When I finally get back to that project, I was hoping to buy something that looked like a beast Europeans would imagine as being in the Untamed Wilderness, in the 17th or 18th centuries, which is why I was really interested in this (although I couldn't afford to participate at the time): link I still hope to be able to buy one eventually. |

Thanks to everyone for their input. I now have a good idea of where I want to go with this. I'm going to stay in the 15mm range just for the ease of storage abilities versus 28mm. I went ahead and purchased the Old Glory army membership so I will be primarily using the Blue Moon minis from their various ranges. As far as the specific monsters such as the Wendigo for example, I beleive I have enough old minis laying around I'm not doing anything with that could be used to help convert and make one in 15mm. This looks like a project I want sink my teeth into after the holidays when the husband allowance is there again. :) Thanks again to everyone for sharing their ideas and suggestions. |

One more? Not supernatural, But a rouge Grizzly Bear, a real smart, mean, BIG one, that preys on a village at odd hours of the night might be fun. How many shots does it take to bring it down? |

Just to update anyone interested here is where I stand now since my last post. I have gone with Blue Moon miniatures for the historical side of things such as the rangers, cour de bois, etc. Got a bunch painted up so I am looking into taking pics. Just not sure if I should set blog site to post them or post them here. I'm open to ideas if anyone has a suggestion. I dug out some 15mm monsters, etc. I had saved for fantasy D&D style gaming such as an owlbear, dire wolves and satyrs. I'm going to use the satyrs to represent pukuwdgee and maybe convert the owlbear (I hope) to look more like a sasquatch. I also had the Mossbeard mini from Reaper painted up when I was still into 28's so I am going to use him as a nature spirit or as the forest guardian like in Lord of the Rings. I read the posts from Cloud Captain's conversation about this idea and loved some of the ideas that came out of it as well such as the Masons being a magically oriented society. Also, I have been considering using imagi-nations that are based off of France and England so that the historical timeline could be skewed a little along with some other historical facts. It's still a work in progress for me, but more updates will come. Thanks to all in advance for any input they may have. |
