Just noticed on the North Star site that new Vendee figures were out from Trent.
A nice addition to the range which hopefully will expand with more figures (hint: we could use some more British for the 1792-1795 period.
Nice additions Duncan

ok and the link: link
Also, put them on the Ca Ira blog ca-ira.blogspot.nl , which I have ignored for too long.

Alde Garde

Thanks for pointing me in that direction. This is a great range and nice to see something that is not Austerlitz, Waterloo or 1812. Worth adding a link;

Have a look at Newark Characters as well, on this site. Some very imaginative stuff there too!

Yes, thanks again

This is great news. A welcome addition to my Alain Touller/Foundry army.

As regards the latter: the ''18th century civilians'' range includes a number of suitable figures with little or no conversions being necessary.

Hello
Very interesting additions…that's my favourite period except besides Colonial..
i never bought trent miniatures..one i kindly received a sample that look quite big compared to Touller/Foundry types of my Vendéan and Bleus Armies are composed…but with such new rare an beatiful Vendéens and Chouans who can resist….
Please did somebody of you Otteneld, Duc de Limbourg already painted some Trent Miniatures French revolution types and put close or used together the range you mention (Touller/Foundry)…did it works or the difference is too much?
thanks

Awesome, I love their figures lots of character, prefect for my skirmishing games , they need to produce their figure faster as they are hard to mix with other ranges

Italwars,

Touller and Trent fit in nicely in my opinion. The style is pretty comparable, both fairly chunky figures. The older Foundry French revolution range yields some very nice Vendeans (most of the range are clearly revolutionary types), but these are noticeably smaller than Touller/ Trent. It doesn't bother me as I am not overly concerned with size, and the figures should form an irregular body anyway. However, the new Foundry/Casting Room figures are in a style that fits in very well with both Trent and Touller. There are also a few cavalry packs, one of which is perfectly suitable for Vendean cavalry (and they are hard to find).

thanks to all for the answers,,i'll have a try at Trent…
Ottenfeld me too i noticed those Casting Room irregular cavalry..their appareance is what is more close to Vendéens rebels..also if i imagine that , in the 18 C. Vendée the only people accostumed to have and so to ride and afford a horse could'nt be the humble paysants du Bocage..probably those few cavalry units should be formed by nobles or former Ancien Régime Officers/Cavalry troopers and, why not, a few of their serfs/domestiques…about those Trent minis they seem to have a lot of character but my only critics could be the hat..not enough broad to represent Vendéen and Chouans…also…Vendéens and Chouans are little different..Bretons pants and short jackets differ from other West France peasants..some Britanny rebels even sported, in some rare occasions, some kind of uniforms..
anyway..all in all..very interesting minis from Trent/North Star

They don't seem to have many starving and sick, and old people, children and women in their line. These would be essential for most Vendee games. Not much in the way of victims of all ages, both genders, of mass executions either. Surely no Vendee game would be complete without them?

agree with you Chouan…"Vive Dieu, Vive le Roi"!

I have flags available for Vendee forces – four or five different designs – for 15mm and 28mm.

Here's a 15mm one on a work-in-progress unit…

If anybody is interested just give me a message through my blog at marengo1800.blogspot.co.uk

Chouan,
I would love to see your wargames table with shot belgian civilians in the WW1, the concentration camps in WW2 and the Boer Wars, the skalped men in the Indian wars etc etc.
It is always a joy to read yor posts about the Vendee.

I've often wondered this though. This area of La Vendee, I have a rough idea of where it is today….why did the local folk stand out as so Royalist and anti revolution for two decades? In 1815, the Hundred Days, where was Boney's biggest internal problem? La Vendee.

Mind you, I accept that his route from Elba to Paris had to be very carefully chosen. Look what happened to Brune or the poor Mamelukes in Southern France! Why was support for Boney so regionally determined? (That may be a very naive question, apologies!)

Chouan17 Nov 2014 7:45 a.m. PST

Buonaparte was simply the successor to the Republic. Given the treatment of the Vendee by the Republic, it is hardly surprising that the survivors would react badly to Buonaparte in 1815. They rose again in 1832 as well, again in favour of the Bourbons. It ended badly again. link There was a rather comic interlude when the Duchesse de Berry became pregnant whilst in hiding. She insisted that it was through a visitation by the Holy Spirit.

I wouldn't game those wars. I wouldn't game any campaign of extermination, or where the slaughter of civilians was the primary aim of the campaign.
