Someone on Boardgame Geek asked if there is a "dungeon crawl" for WWII. That got me thinking that most of my figures are 1/72nd, and I tend to play platoon or larger scale games. I know it sounds like herasy, but is there a good set of rules where I can take a squad, manage all the small stuff in a realistic way, and get an RPGS feel? And that's not too complicated to actually play? |

valkenburgs castle. Old pocket style game, I'm thinking it was just rereleased. Sorry dont know by who. The game had good guys squads (knights or WWII) clearing out a bad guy fill dungeon. Had theives, magic, dragons, locked doors all the needed stuff for a nice enjotable DC. |

Stalingrad, down in the sewers, comes to mind. Did they fight in the sewers in Berlin too? If so, that might be a decent rematch. |

Dungeon crawl was a bad choice on my part. What I really want is a game using a squad that is both realistic and has a good RPGS element. |

If you don't mind me shilling, my "Five Men in Normandy" has RPG style stuff. Random events take place between missions, you roll up characters and they can earn skills and other benefits as you play. It's aimed at quick play more so than hardcore realism but the effect is still pretty good (troops hit the dirt a lot and there's a distinct lack of control). Not a lot of tracking individual ammo and all that though. The typical game is 5-8 men. There's a ton of expansions and a scifi counterpart as well. link I'll be happy to answer some questions if you are interested. If you want a more hardcore simulation, Face Of Battle is great for a squad or less on each side.

Sounds like you could give Two Hoour Wargame's Reaction System a try. There are actual Dungeon Crawl games (Warrior Heroes), a WW2 Game (Nuts!), and much in between and beyond. Designed for squads and allows for solo or coop gameplay. |

Normandy Firefight might be a good match for you. |

Savage Worlds Weird War II or Modern Ops-blends roleplaying and skirmishing pretty well. Use silencers and no grenades. I always wanted to do a Battletech dungeon-those 'Brian' installations/fortresses could get pretty large. |

Depends on how crunchy you want it. Two Hour Wargames fills the roles: light on record keeping, light on stats, troops have a chance to increase (or decrease) skill after missions, pretty realistic (poor tactics will usually get punished). |

Nuts from 2hour wargames is like this. Also look at Platoon Forward from Too Fat Lardies as a campaign guideline. |

Vote for Nuts! from Two Hour Wargames. Excellent forum will surely support the development of any ideas you might wish to explore. |

Hell, we used Dungeons and Dragons. A submachine gun attacked like a flail, a rifle was a broadsword, etc. Each guy got like one hit die and the monsters as defined in the rules. It was a fun diversion from regular D&D. Scenario: reports indicate partisan activity back in the hills. Troops are sent to quash it. An ancient castle is found. The German troops enter the forbidding walls….. |

There are sewer combat rules in the Two Hour Wargames NUTS Clash of Titans book that include sewer system map creation (both planned and as you go), encounters (called PEFs -- Potential Enemy Forces), moving/detection in darkness, and the like. Combat tends to be very close range and as such, very nasty. |

If it's an actual dungeon crawl (instead of just RPG for a squad) then Incursion may be a possibility. It's like Space Hulk using Allies in power armor and Axis mad scientists with their supernatural army of werewolves, Frankenstein monsters and zombies. I have the 1st edition that uses 'stand-ee' cardstock minis that can be upgraded by buying the company's models. link |

I agree with Savage Worlds and Nuts! Both are great games. Another good option is Battleground WWII. |

I own Weasel's Five Core and Five Parsecs, and have to say they're straightforward, solid, and versatile games. Not a hyper-realism RPG but enough details to differentiate squad members without being boggy. I haven't read the WW2 rules, but the core mechanics/sci fi iteration is fun. |

Normandy Firefight is excellent. There was an article in a WI that had the author take old school Space Hulk and was using it to game WW1 trench warfare. If you can find the Space Hulk Bible (try boardgamegeek files section) (or own the original and compendium) you could use the IG rules to represent non power armoured chaps. Might be a lot of effort as there may be something more suitable but worth consideration. |

Come to think of it, we ran a French Foreign Legion ww2 campaign with GURPS, using hex maps and basically running it as a tactical wargame. Was super great but pretty intense stuff. |
