HI All

I just got back from What Con (formally Rock Con) in Rockford IL. I had a great time. I was concerned that there would be a low turnout due to competing conventions on the some day and a perception that it was a new convention. My concerns turned out to be unfounded. There were games a plenty to be had and registration was easy. I was able to play in two games during the short time I was there ( about 8 hours).

The dealer hall though small represented the attendees well. What I mean is that the few dealers that were there would have been of interest to the attendees. As for myself I was happy to see Knuckleduster there as they werent listed on the vendor list. Im always happy to support Forrest. He has some wonderful products.

As for attendance I am a poor judge as this was my first visit to What con/Rock Con. I can say this though that when I left at 4:30 all the tables had games in progress.

I will certainly try and make it back to What Con next year. I may even bring a game to run with me.

Sorry I didnt have a camera with me.

There was a good variety of games. there were several tables set up for 40k. There looked to be Mailfaux and Bolt action tournaments if tournaments are your thing.

I managed to get in on two games. I played a game of Battletech using teh quick play Alpha Strike rules. I had a great time with the rules and my interest in Battletech has been rekindled.

I also managed to play a WWI wings of war game.

I thought the con seemed light in pretty much all aspects: smaller dealer area, smaller silent auction, fewer games and fewer attendees. However, I can write much of this off due to the change in name and date.

On the other hand, it seemed well-run and the staff was friendly and helpful. The real test will be next year. Hopefully they can draw a few more dealers and bring the attendance up. I only played this year, but will make a point of running a couple of games next year.
