My current interest is modern / ultra modern 15mm wargaming. Approximately the early 1990s to present. I'm looking for a forum or message board which covers the period in general in a variety of scales. I'm not so naive as to think there's a board of forum out there catering exclusively for my narrow interest! Anyway, as you may know Lead Adventure Forum announced they were banning all content relating to miniature gaming after 1989 in their "modern" message board: link And I'm sorry to say that the Modern and Ultramodern boards on TMP are swamped by non-hobby content which ruined them for me as I find it time consuming just to filter out more limited relevant hobby-related posts and industry news. So anyway, Where can I find a good modern / ultra modern forum message board that covers a variety of scales, including 15mm? |

So, modern gaming just stops with the fall of the Berlin Wall, at least the discussion of it, on the LAF? How silly……. |
KTravlos | 08 Nov 2014 3:29 a.m. PST |
sack of monkeys, your best bet is to post on boards like American Gaming, German Gaming, Blogs of Wars and indeed maybe even the sci-fi boards. Just avoid the ultramodern boards for gaming related stuff. I do think the LAF did err to much on the other side (mayhaps harsher moderation rules are the answer) |

I heard The Guild is good for ultramodern. Not a member. Just what I heard |

The Force on Force boards are probably a good place. It would only cover the one set of rules of course but the few times I popped on there to look at game replays the content has been heavily tilted toward actual gaming information… |

Sorry, the link to my suggested site was blocked by TMP. Not sure what is going on. |

Sackofmonkeys: You could just ignore all the non-gaming ephemera here and talk about modern gaming. I for one would be very interested in what you might have to say. Or you could Google search the words "website", "banana" and "wargames" and just see what comes up. If that search proves too limited leave out the potassium-rich fruit and try again. Kyoteblue: No need to stop posting updates on all things "Ifat". Keep the people here in the loop with your imagine-nation. To all: The Ultramodern Board is not going to change unless we make an effort to change it. So don't go away. Stay and post and make it better. That seems to be the most sensible solution to me. As for me I have taken delivery of Iraqi insurgents and Taliban fighters from both Flashpoint Miniatures and Flytrap Factory. They were ordered and arrived in very short order from the other side of the globe. I was very impressed indeed. I will be preparing them next weekend and then beginning the long process of painting them. When all is said and done there will be about 80 figures of each group. Then I will begin painting US infantry, US Marines and Canadian infantry. I also took delivery of some African Militia and Regulars so I will be soon ordering some French Kit from Irishserb and QRF and some French Infantry from Peter Pig. Oh, those Irishserb VBL's and ECR-90's haunt me as does the QRF AMX-10RC! Must Have! VAB's too! I will also be ordering some Humvees from Irishserb and some Cougars from QRF when I can figure out transport issues for the American Infantry/Marines. Cheers and good gaming. Rod Robertson. |

As I understand it, the decision at the LAF was made for legal reasons – the site is based in Germany, which has quite restrictive laws in certain respects, and there was concern that even perfectly innocent wargaming-oriented discussion of contemporary conflicts might run afoul of them. Which really sucks. I second the Ambush Alley/Force on Force recommendation – seems to be a lot of knowledgeable people there, and there are plenty of topics that are only tangentially related to the game itself (TOEs, questions about suitable minis etc.) |

Just post on the Modern board here and leave ultra modern to the loons. I'm sure a few people would like to talk about actual wargaming. |

Irishserb / Rob – thanks, I found the non-banana-related website in question! Rod – I'm working on an ultra modern 15mm Australian force comprised on Eureka infantry and Bushmasters and Khurasan M1 Abrams and a USMC force comprised of Peter Pig marines, Irishserb Humvees and AAV7A1s and Khurasan M1 Abrams. I just need ASLAVs and MRAPS in 15mm… Regardless, I just can't be bothered trawling through the non-wargaming content on TMP and will be finding my fix and news elsewhere. |

sackofmonkeys: Have a look at QRF for a Cougar MRAP or Rebelminis for a pseudo-Oshkosh MRAP. The Rebelminis one is in the Science Fiction section but is very close to the real thing. If you have not yet fully committed to your Marines being all PP, check out Flytrap Factory Marines. I just took delivery of some and they look great. Size wise they are compatible with PP Marines too.I will be mixing mine with PP figures. Cheers. Rod Robertson. |

Sackofmonkeys – it sounds like we have a very similar project on the go at the moment. I have just about finished painting my 15mm Aussies (Platoon+) and will be getting the Bushmasters to go with it, as well as some M1's and ASLAVs – at this stage it looks like it will have to be QRF for the LAVs. I have a number of Khurasan's North Koreans as the enemy, but was hoping to get the Eureka PLA as it looks like Khurasan wont make any more NKs. |
Jamesonsafari | 09 Nov 2014 1:13 p.m. PST |
well I was going to share my Canadians in Kandahar on LAF, but I guess not now… They'll be here and on the The Guild |

James, I was just thinking the same about my Aussies … |

Thanks Rod – I will paint up my 15mmlead pile first, and consider getting some. The PLA will be used as PLA though, not NKs – one can't have enough enemies to fend off ;-) |

I think the Lead Adventure decision was based on the move of figures no longer being made of lead around 1989. Thus the lead adventure ends there. Waiting for the Pewter Alloy Adventure forum to post my modern stuff. |
shelldrake | 09 Nov 2014 9:01 p.m. PST |
lol – I will give you points for that |
GrapeGasse | 11 Nov 2014 12:23 p.m. PST |
Try posting the idea on any other website than TMP or the Lead Adventure and seeing what the response you get is. If it's no good then try somewhere else. Is WD3 still around? |

Genuinely what happened? I've not been active on the forums for a while but when I was last here anything not wargame related was referred to the Blue Fez, now this entire thread has nothing to do with wargaming. |

They're too modern and equipped with modern Chinese QBZ85/95 bullpup assault rifles as opposed to Ak derivatives.
North Korean army mainly wears older style uniforms more similar to old Chinese and Russian designs than modern gear, with modern camo being assigned generally to special forces:

I second (or third or fourth as the case may be) The Guild. I'm not as active over there as I should be – I need to remedy that. The folks there are friendly and collectively knowledgeable about pretty much any era of gaming you might be interested in. I'm obviously biased about my own forum, of course, but the folks there are also very friendly and happy to share information about modern/ultra-modern gaming related topics – as was stated above, many of our threads are useful to modern gamers whether they use our rules or not. Many modern (and SF) miniatures and terrain companies drop in to share news on new products, too, so it's a good place to get a heads up on new modern/ultra-modern toys looming on the horizon. All the best, Shawn. |

modern Spearhead has a yahoo group. I found it this am. I recently bought the rules and my 1/285 stuff can once again see the light of day. Now I just have to find my skinny tie and regrow my mullet for the full 80s effect. |

Hardly ever frequent here now, maybe once a week, because of the spamming of the modern boards by a certain member. (Who in my opinion has ruined the whole of TMP boards with his stupid posts) I have fully moved to the guild wargamers for my fix, and drop in occasionally to the ambush alley forum My two cents |
