Other than Crimson Skies are there any other rules sets that are written for or would work well for Pulp themed air battles involving spiffy planes and possibly other fantastic elements such as dinosaurs, robots or air ships?

That would be pretty cool. Pulp era serials frequently included aircraft and pulp magazines like "G-8 and his Battle Aces" and were typical as well as radio programs like "Captain Midnight".

My thoughts exactly.

Hi Eli!

We've done all this with Pulp Alley, using the Pulp Guns, Gadgets, and Vehicles expansion book. Air battle with 3-4 planes per side are lots of fun. We've even had giant flying robots. :)

Check it out. This is the kind of stuff Dad wrote that book for.

Have fun

We have a beer'n'pretzels lighter than air combat game Dirigibles of Doom. Quick and easy, it makes a nice interlude for some air combat segments in another game.

Dirigibles of Doom!

We'll hide things like the secret rebel weapons stashes or the Ancient Artifact of Reasonable Usefulness in the city, see what gets destroyed, and move on to the next scenario. It's also good for the standard attacker/defender scenario before a land assault.

Wasn't there an attempt at a set of rules called Zeppelin Adventures, or something similar, a few years ago?

Pulp Girl,

That's good to know. I didn't quite know how the rules would handle a lot of vehicles on the board at the same time.

Bigger board I am assuming?

Mila,

Do you think that the Pulp Alley rules would work okay using smaller scale models and focusing on the craft and vehicles more than the pilots in them?

@ Eli -- Oh yes, we've played plenty of Pulp Alley scenarios with 3-4 planes/vehicles per side. If you're going to focus primarily on the skies, then you could easily double that number of planes.

Yes, you may want to use a bigger table, just depending on the scale of planes you're using.

The "stunts" rules add lots of fun (and bonuses) if you're willing to take the risks. Also, you might try resolving the dogfights as opposed challenges. I think that works really well.

HAVE FUN
