Make a long story simple and short.

I cancelled previously my AOV Alma 1854 game for Friday because I was concerned about how nasty my chemo would hit me.

Good thing I did because HMGS double booked the table I was on for both Friday night and Saturday morning. I wasn't even going to be able to set up for Saturday on Friday night. Someone had to give so I bit the bullet and cancelled the Saturday game as well.

To everyone, but especially those 7 folks already signed up, my sincerest apologies for this inconvenience. Thanks.

Not to worry, Bill. Real life (especially when health is involved) trumps all. Hope the chemo goes well and you get to enjoy the show.

That's why it's called a hobby,Bill. Health first!

Ironwolf07 Nov 2014 6:59 p.m. PST

hope you get to feeling better.

Well thanks for all the good words and well wishes. They are certainly most appreciated.

BUT, just to be clear, my cancelling my second game (on Saturday) had nothing to do with my health, as I'm feeling good right now. Somehow the convention botched the scheduling, and I volunteered to step aside as I would be the party least inconvenienced.

Nevertheless, I do feel bad about it, because I know I let some folks down.

Bill, thoughts and prayers. I consider you to be an old friend having met you at Wargamers in Sterling VA when you were at UVA ROTC, I believe. Take care. Get well my friend.

I would love to see you come to Little Wars and run your game.

Poniatowski10 Nov 2014 6:58 a.m. PST

Bill,

I wish I would have been notified sooner… your table was definitely NOT double booked. Someone moved a game into there and got it approved with the club, not events desk…

I know it wasn't double booked on that table because I am the one who booked that whole room.

That was strictly a club issue, so please do not say "HMGS did this".

I will have enough damage control to do over the water going out on Sunday….

I do appologize though… I wish I had known.

OSchmidt10 Nov 2014 7:58 a.m. PST

Dear Bill

Come put it on at "The Weekend." You'll get lots of players and you won't have a problem with double booking.

But I was most distressed to hear, when we talked in the Dystlefink about your Chemo. I had not even know you were sick, and I am most sorry about this. I really hope things are going better for you, as you told me and you are feeling well.

People are everything, games are nothing, and we're much more concerned about YOU than a game.

Colonel Bill10 Nov 2014 8:08 a.m. PST

Ok , then maybe I'm confused. The issue was caused by the following . . .

Program p 27, F134, Table M8, 4:00 pm for 4 hours
Program p 27, F101, Table M8, 5:00 pm for 5 hours

Program p 41, S102, Table M8, 9:00 am for 5 hours
Program p 43, S135, Table M8, 10:00 am for 4 hours

I was 101 and 102. If the games weren't doublebooked, why did the program read this way?

Water going out?

Dan – Think that Bill has pointed out at least part of the problem. May have been a typo in the program and easily solved, or something more significant. Will have to take as a lesson learned and try to prevent recurrence!

Colonel Bill10 Nov 2014 12:07 p.m. PST

Thanks, Otto, but it looks like I will be fine :-).

John,

Already on it! My thumb drive is at the house, so I'll look it up when I get home. I'll look at th eother games. These were all low number games.. there should have been no mistakes due to the fact that there was so many empty tables at that point in the scheduling.

I know the saddle blanked read correctly, so I am wondering if it was a typo now as computers do not pull the wrong info. This could only have been on me as Zack had all kinds of issues scheduling the Marietta.

Poniatowski11 Nov 2014 6:04 a.m. PST

OK, the issue was on the back end… table assignments. My fault… the paperwork and files show the other games to be in the D-fink. I do not know what I was thinking when I put in "M" instead of "D". SO Zack did it correctly…. I put them in later for room assignments somehow wrong.

Duncan Adams11 Nov 2014 9:35 a.m. PST

I do not know what I was thinking when I put in "M" instead of "D".

Don't you have a system that automatically puts in the "M"s and "D"s when the events manager sets the room?

Duncan

Poniatowski11 Nov 2014 11:59 a.m. PST

Ummm…. no.. neither he nor I are IT or computer friendly.. unless you count FB for him and MMO's for me.

I am a chemist. I am not a programmer….

PT is already letting me know what must be done…. I use too many sources of data… too many places for mistakes… it was a "fat finger" mistake any way.

cleo liebl11 Nov 2014 2:49 p.m. PST

The Con staff offered, and has usually cured double booking, inconvenient locations (another gentleman is undergoing chemo and was located at the back of Distelfink, near the door -- and smokers). We usually try to work with each gamemaster, because we know how much work going into preparing a game, and the gamemasters make and ARE the convention. Sorry you chose not to avail yourself of our aid.

Colonel Bill12 Nov 2014 6:26 a.m. PST

Cleo,

Sorry to disagree, but if you recall I did come to your desk and spoke with both you and Bob face to face over the issue. Here there did seem to be some confusion because I specifically remember you mentioning that the club POC actually assigned the tables in the club room, not the Events Chair (is this a new policy, because I also heard other GMs remark the Events Desk told them likewise), and the master scheduling sheets you had on hand evidently were incomplete or did not match the program. You did indeed offer to move the other party into the Lampeter, but given they were already set up and their game was in the program for that table, this seemed to be a worse cure than the original ailment. After all, they had just as much right to the table as I did. Another free table in a lockable room simply could not be found, because we did look. So I bit the bullet.

I appreciate the fact you were understaffed, materials seemed to be incomplete and that you had nothing to do with the original error, but please do NOT suggest I did not consult the system in place, because I most certainly did.

Bill
