I am going on a trip with my wife who has a conference in New Orleans in February, any historical things to see there or must see attractions?
Thanks in advance-

Here's a good starting point!

JimDuncanUK beat me to it. The museum is worth most of a day. And the café serves pretty good chow,

The Louisiana State Museum is worth a visit and it is right on Jackson square in the French Quarter.

If you can get out of town a bit go to the Chalmette battlefield. You will be a month late for the 200th anniversary of the battle of New Orleans but it is still worth the visit. (I will be there for the anniversary in January)

Confederate Memorial Hall is also worth a few minutes. It not only is a memorial to the Rebs from Louisiana but the last time I was there they had an exhibit on the Louisiana Native Guard).

I'm sure others will weigh in with their faves.

Cometary is interesting and has a giant war memorial to soldiers of 1812 if I remember.

Chalmette and D Day Museum are musts in my book.
Do bring antacids and enjoy the cuisine.
You can fast when you get home.

Here's the Mardi Gras schedule for 2015. Parades begin Feb. 6 and culminate on Fat Tuesday Feb. 17. I'm assuming your wife's conference is after that?

And here's a good link for things to do while you're here:

And I'd pass on the restaurant at the museum. Chef John Besh was associated with it until this summer, and the service and food has slipped considerably since his departure. Instead try the Ugly Dog Saloon. It's within walking distance and is a great joint.

Well besides normal mil history stuff .
The Aquarium is very nice.
Ride the trolley the entire length. The Garden district is very nice to look at.

WWII museum is worth a visit.

Confederate Memorial Hall is a block or so away.

I'd do some cemeteries too.

If you hire a car Ft. Jackson is worth a visit.

Here's another vote for Confederate Memorial Hall. Having seen both it and the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond, I'd say the uniforms, flags, guns, and other items on display at Confederate Memorial Hall are in the same league with the Richmond museum's collection.

The Historic New Orleans Collection in the French Quarter – I think its on Royal Street, not certain – has some interesting War of 1812 items on display.

And you can't beat New Orleans for used bookshops….
