After completing the Stonewall Brigade, I am about to start on Taliaferro's brigade which includes these two rookie regiments. I was just wondering if anybody had any info on the types of shell jackets they would be outfitted in? I was thinking of doing Richmond Type I's, and pretty consistent trouser colours and kepis since they were pretty fresh units. Does anybody else have any ideas?

I'd go with some shade of gray. :)

I believe they wore frock coats when they were first recruited. I don't know the shade of gray, but the default is usually "cadet gray" or maybe something lighter.

According to Osprey MAA426 the 48th Georgia "may well" have received their early uniforms from North Carolina of single breasted grey frock coat, kepi with a red top and blue band and black belts.

The 27th Va Co D started the war in frock coats. The head gear were shorter shako like hats. It seems a number of very early war units wore frockcoats etc.

Wiley David Crenshaw, Co. "F", 47th Alabama. Image taken probably in 1862.

Frock coat with either black or dark blue collar & cuffs. Note that Alabama used black to designate infantry, rather than blue, so it's most likely these were black trimmed coats.
