I might be looking to do Angola in the 1980's does anyone make South Africans and Cubans in 15mm? |
Buckeye AKA Darryl | 02 Nov 2014 5:54 p.m. PST |
I think for Cubans one could use Peter Pig's AK-47 range Hardened Militia. Perhaps South Africans could be culled from the same range, using the Professional packs. link |

I do wish there were more options for this but the PP stuff is pretty solid. Only question is the LMG. Far as I know the PP figures all have RPD. Anyone know if that's correct for Cubans? |

I'm sure it's correct for Cubans sent to Angola. They had generic olive or camo fatigues but beyond that everything was pure Soviet. |

Most of the pics I recall seeing in the news of the Cubans were them wearing the soft caps, instead of helmets, no doubt due to the heat and humidity. Of course, they probably had helmets to don, when needed as well, so the Peter Pig stuff is probably a very good choice. |

I remember a suggestion of using the PP Israelis for the SA mechanised troops. The Gallil doubles as the R4, plus they have the right looking helmet. I went for 20mm, using Liberation Miniatures with SLRs and slouch hats, so what do I know about the right figures in 15mm…. 8^) By the way, have you seen this… link lots of pictures, flicked through my copy, but not read it yet. |

Blood I've seen that one have not read it yet, I just finished this one. link It was good but not many first person accounts for me. |

Mr Marine, I spent ages waiting for that one to be published and for Amazon to send it through, in the end I was left with a feeling of disappointment. Not sure if that was because I waited so long and I was expecting so much of it or whether it was a failing of the book itself. So, I think I agree more with the Amazon.Com reviews than the Amazon.Co.UK one. I have high hopes for this one too… link The other Africa@War books I have seem very good too.. |

My plan is to use the PP Israelis as SADF. |

Yes, the PP 'Hardened Militia' are ideal for Cubans. Uniforms were usually grey 'Lizard' pattern. Use the Hardened Militia figures again for FAPLA or the SADF's 32 Bn, this time in Portuguese-style camo. The PP Israelis are fine for late 80s South Africans, though for the purists, the helmets were generally not worn in Angola. So either swap for bush-hatted heads or just live with it. For early 80s SADF or SWATF auxiliaries, use PP 'Professionals' in bush hat or the Australians from their Vietnam range (but not the M60s and M79s). For UNITA use a mixture of PP 'Professionals' in bush hat, Vietnam Australians and Hardened Militia (this time you can include M60 MGs). I used British MILAN teams by QRF, with bush hat head-swaps. |
