Someone I know did this in 28mm…I even have the picture….but it never became a release….and he is the top man in modelling such……..so if he thought do not bother…….

You can see why. It is just a "British" gun carriage covered in spare wheels, instead of carrying a 6 or 9pdr barrel. It is surely the ugliest vehicle of the Nap Wars and of no use whatsoever to wargamers.

Bit like the mobile kitchen of the Imperial Household….it could be modelled but….why?

The painting is truly dreadful. The poor driver's coat is the same blue as the limber and the wheel carriage. The horses…..

We must be allowed to occasionally say when something is wrong when it is put up for comment. There are too many responses just saying "Cool" to get back to the top of the chain.

If this was 6mm work I might accept that, but recent posts suggest those folk do far better than this

This picture is of a spare wheel carriage in 20mm. So, a little slack re the painting comments but not too much. I take your point though.

Hinchliffe also make a spare wheel carriage in 25mm and 30mm. I have both and they are very detailed models and will eventually be part of the terrain errata.

Well someone I know, an authority, made this, but it never made it to the sales shelves.

Have to say it cannot see it appealing greatly to the wargamer or the collector…or at least enough to make it commercially viable!

I was hard on the modeller I admit, but we must point out failings, as well as swooning over everything else that is posted here. If you post it on line, you must accept the criticism as well as the plaudits, I feel.

I could see it as an objective marker in a Napoleonic skirmish game. That or a simple diorama.

I might just try to model one.

Thanks for the link Tango1

Deadhead – very sorry you didn't like my painting – I confess I did not do it for you, sweetheart, but thanks anyway. Just to put you a little straight, the colours are not as you describe – the flash has shown them a bit inaccurately – and I did not post this here, especially not for your benefit – this has been borrowed from my own blog, where it was shown simply to demonstrate the rather unusual vehicle (rather than the usual auto-erotic traditions of TMP), and because I was rather pleased with it. I've been involved in wargames, painting and collecting figures for many years, and I don't recall being the target of such a splendid rebuke in all those years, so my compliments – you really are very special. Your mum must be very proud of you.

Maximilien S Foy02 Nov 2014 5:35 p.m. PST

Tango1 – I'd be obliged if you'd delete my photo from this thread; please check with me before publishing anything again. I appreciate the implied compliment, but this forum is not really a place I wish to be associated with. Thanks.

dBerczerk02 Nov 2014 6:26 p.m. PST

Too bad.

I rather enjoyed the photos -- reminded me of my 25mm MINIFIG Napoleonics, which I still enjoy despite all the marvelous contemporary figures now available in 28mm.

Maximilien S Foy03 Nov 2014 12:45 a.m. PST

dBerczerk – thanks for this – yes, you're spot on – this is a 20mm Old School style wargames figure, painted in the simple style which has served me well and happily for many years. I would not have thought it should outrage the Perry disciples or the trolls – if I misjudged this, and am enjoying my hobby in a way which does not conform to current standards, approved manufacturers or scales then my apology is open to all.

Naw, let me offer an apology. If my old Mom was still around she would say "there you go with your big mouth again". Don't blame Tango or the site for this. There are much weirder folk than me and their messages can get very personal here sometimes. It is still a great resource though. Dawghouse and change my name to D--khead instead.

Comment was unsolicited I realise now. I certainly know what you mean about photography and blues especially. The moment the flash is used…… all white balance you can forget. I meant the colours used, not the quality of the application of paint. Badly phrased nonetheless, as I stated the latter.

Over the last couple of years I have managed to upset those who model in 1/72 and on another occasion those who favour plastics over metal….I certainly should have checked your website first and not just relied on the two pics above.

Sorry.!

Can I add, I'd buy one of those and have it my collection. I'm always adding "useless" pieces that have no gaming value to brighten up my armies.

As for the painting, it is no worse than any other wargames table ready painting and does the job that the painter intended. I can even see that model looking really good with a simple army painter wash, which a lot of people nowadays use.

I always wonder though, why does this forum has such a bad reputation with some people?

Perhaps cos folk like me insult other folks' work?

There can be some ill feeling exchanges here, which go on and on, swapping abuse about Napoleon's worth or the Prussian contribution to Waterloo. I've generally found it extremely informative though, with great expertise to draw on and I have had some great tips and feedback from showing my own work.

It would have been better if I had made a more constructive comment as you did. "This might have benefitted from a darker blue on the driver and use of a dip or wash to highlight detail". The painting is fine obviously, despite what I said. Cuffs and collar, even lace on the jacket. It was the colour, not the skill with the paintbrush I meant to criticise. My recent Eclaireurs came out a horrendous green in photos, which toning down and desaturating only partly relieved. They are fine in daylight!

My friend Maximilien S Foy sorry for the inconveniencies.
I honesty like your work.
It's quite similar to my owns.
I know I'm not a good painter, but this site is for showing our miniatures. Like them by the people or not.
I undestand you want to avoid critics to your work (same in your page I guess), but it's a little price to pay considering those who really like them or be usefull for guide.
Personally, I never see it before and you encourage me to buy some for my big battle games. I like the wheels very much.

So, please take your time and reconsider your position my friend.

Sorry Armand – I was a bit hasty too. These forums (fora?) are dangerous – we should only ever write stuff which we would be prepared to say in a room with the same audience. I don't mind criticism, but it helps if it is in context. If I want a prize-winning display piece, I'll pay Jez Farminer or Grambo to paint it for me!

Thanks for accepting apols graciously!

I was once President of a Regional Medical Society and we were all being plagued by a very awkward sponsor. In an e mail to Council I referred to him as "a miserable b…..d". My vice President replied to all, agreeing with me……..but copied it to this character inadvertently. I should have learned from that!

Tango0103 Nov 2014 11:25 p.m. PST

No harm here my friend.
Hope to see your future jobs soon!. (smile)

Thanks, Armand. I'm glad we are all chums again. Quite enough said, all round, I think, but a couple of final thoughts of mine.

(1) My wargame models are toys, primarily, and are painted as toys. I can handle that if you guys can.

(2) It is faintly worrying that we should get enjoyment from being mean online to a complete stranger, simply because there is no fear of comeback. I detest this in all its manifestations, and especially when I find it in myself.

plutarch 6406 Nov 2014 3:37 a.m. PST

On a different note, I am reasonably certain I have one of these as well.

Hinchliffe, if I'm not mistaken. I can vaguely remember wondering where all the wheels were supposed to go…
