I have completed the pack of 5 PSC Shermans. I have tried to weather these more realistically than the Russian Tanks I finished before – still they turned out a bit rougher than I had first intended. My only disappointment is with the dust effects I achieved with pigments was lost when I applied a coat of gloss varnish (for protection). I need a new method here – maybe I'll try a matt varnish after the dust and that will help keep the dusty look?

Hi, What did you use for decals, especially bumper codes? Damon. |

Hey Damon These are from Battlefront (FoW). They are the easiest to get a hold of here in Australia. I am just starting out so this is quite a big set of decals and I think I will use them all eventually. Tim |

Tim, there is a Mig pigment fixer that is exactly what you're looking for. If in Sydney it's stocked by Combat Company, otherwise Mighty Ape has it for use online. I'm in the process of switching to the AK Interactive and Ammo from Mig range of enamel weathering products, including their dust products, give those a look in. Looks like you're across them though, your tanks are excellent. |

regardless of the fixer used, the varnish/laquer will negate some/most of the work. Our 1/35 brethren don't have the varnish issue. I use a several stage approach where the majority of the "mud and dust" effects are created with enamels, or indeed oils, then finessed with pigments, lacquered and then a final (non permanent) pigment application is used. |

Mcwong and Troop Will chase down some pigment fixer as you suggest and see how it goes. I'm using AK enamels having invested in their weathering products for this project. Still a Vallejo guy when it comes to acrylics – old habits … Thanks for the encouragement. It may be a while before i get my next set done – have some Sherman V's Panzer IVs and a bucket load of infantry primed and ready to paint! All 15mm. Tim |
