Now that Im getting back into 15mm (after years of 10mm)decided to order DBA3, played v2.2 for years and enjoyed it.
Few questions:-
1st-Ive ordered mine from the chaps at Black Hat Miniatures here in the UK never bought from them previously…Any Good?
2nd-Without bitching and slagging hows it stand up as a new rules set? Its been a while coming was it worth the wait?
3rd-How popular is it here in the uk (north west)Any clubs out there playing?
Jason.

Where exactly are you in the north west? I've never seen DBA played at any club in the UK.

Probably a bit late now you've ordered to tell you that they're axe murderers then :)
Black Hat are a great company to deal with.

I think you will be pleased with DBA3. I've been perusing the rules since Saturday and I'm quite pleased to see that the changes to the rules haven't changed the commitment to simplicity. There's enough new stuff in there to fix some of geometric oddities and some troop types are adjusted. The fact that Phil chose to openly develop this revision really shows.

The presentation of the rules and the quality of the publication itself is top notch. The rules are presented in a readable font and the binding appears to be really good. The jewel, at least for me, is how the army lists are presented. They now carry the descriptions and historical notes with them so no more trying to locate your DBM army books. The lists are also indexed two ways, geographically (for those of you wanting to only play Mezzo American armies) and alphabetically (for those of you who only want to play armies beginning with the letter 'Q').

Mega dittos to XRaysVision, who really sees into this:)

If DBA 3 was a brand new game today, the first original DBA ( with nobody complaining that some elements in their army is wrong) it would be the most impressive ancients game ever seen. We can think of all the previous versions as just warm-ups for this version.

It comes 23 years after the first version, so is subject to comparison to those earlier ones that pale in comparison. I am thinking of it as a new game, as different from DBA 2.2 as DBMM is different from DBM.

It's pretty good. I tried a match up of Late Swiss vs French Ordonnance using the De Bellis Solitudinus solo rules. Good game (the Swiss won. One difference you'll see is much less rear support for some troops. Pretty much only Pk now, but some can have double elements. IMHO this makes it much more like the original set and better balanced; I always saw things like the Wb quick kill as a balance to Bd having better factors. It was the attempts to do the same for DBM(M)that led to the big arguments over how effective Romans were, etc. There's no campaign system now, just suggestions. Overall, it's good, and I will enjoy playing it.

Thanks to Black Hat (great service) I've received my copy….wow!! Thought Id never see the day, this is a really nice rule book. I doff my hat to those who brought DBA into the new age. It needed it and its been done well. Yep I know the doubters will complain about typos etc and yep there are some faults ..but hey its DBA that and the Barkerisums are all part of it, embrace it:-) DBA …you got to love or loathe it or both!!

I think it's great -can a city only be in a corner then???
That's a fairly surreal question for the uninitiated…

can a city only be in a corner then???

"all of a city or fort must be within 6BW of each of 2 battlefield edges" (p7)
