I'm putting together a unit of Foundry and Front Rank Highlanders for the Peninsular War. I've got a couple of Foundry Crimean Highlanders I'd like to use just because they're nice figures (and I've got them!!) but would I get away with the hats. Did the bonnet worn in the Napoleonic era always have a peak and was the later head gear made of something different? What would an officer wear?
I do know that these blokes will need a shave!!

Wasn't supposed to have a peak – it was against regulations – I think only one regiment wore them anyway (42nd? – really not sure without looking it up). They didn't wear a sporran on service and I think I'm right in saying the Kilt was shorter – couldn't swear to any of this but would suggest you check out the Osprey.

Thanks Green Tiger -I did do a trawl through the Net and various books but TMP is quicker!!! I couldn't put my finger on what made the Crimean figs look so, well, Crimean -it was the sporran -didn't notice that before.

The knapsack is very different and if you have 25mm I'd say your jocks are carrying three band enfields in stead of the pinned barrel India pattern bess
