After the recent events (I don't need to go into detail), perhaps we need to institute a new idea (note I did not say rule), perhaps a agreement between all members. This "idea" is that every post written must be able to be traced to war-gaming. For example a rather hostile post of late could be expressed as – Do SS combat units deserve the bonuses awarded to them in many games and in what years would this bonus change. Now instead of a political argument we could discuss whether it was combat prowess, moral or equipment that led to these units being awarded bonuses in many rule sets. The aim as you can see is instead of airily discussing the politics that surround the topic we instead aim for a war-games reasoned approach. Perhaps we should title the poll How does it effect my game. Lets discuss our related hobby not indulge our political hobby (that is for the blue fez). |

Nice idea. But you'd have better luck herding cats… |
Slappy | 29 Oct 2014 5:24 p.m. PST |
Perhaps the editor and his legions can enforce it, or we as fellow members can ask the question what does this have to do with war-gaming or even better in the spirit of community help the original poster by showing how they would use the information in their war-games. |

This "idea" is that every post written must be able to be traced to war-gaming. Funny, that's pretty much exactly how it works on the Lead Adventure Forum. Threads that aren't directly related to miniatures or wargaming aren't allowed there. And it works without a hitch. |

You'll receive the standard reply to your question of "if you don't like what you are reading, don't go there". It actually works, but you find yourself visiting less and less of TMP. Kind of a shame especially as your question seems very reasonable. Ho Hum! |

Okay so I'm going to say the same thing I've said time and time before. Yes this is a miniatures web site and the main reason we all come here is to talk about miniatures. However I have plenty of friends that are chef's and we talk about more than culinary topics. I also have friends that are fishermen, yet we also talk more than just about fishing. I've read plenty of good discussions about things that are in no way miniature related on this site and it hasn't hurt me one bit. It's pretty easy to steer clear of probable nasty threads and just read what you want to. Stop trying to censor my reading because you don't know how to censor your own. |

"You" (as in the non-wargaming talk show view of the site folks) can read all the non-wargaming stuff you want. Do not spill it over to the war-gaming parts. The issue is not that "you" go on and on about Putin, Ukraine, China or what the devil, the issue is that "you" are doing it in the war-gaming parts of the site. And that is unacceptable. |

You've got more chance of bottling a rainbow, sadly. |

Why does so much of this happen on TMP? I don't know. Except that on sites, with less people, everything seems more civil. Let's face it? There are too many people on this site for everyone to get on. The rules of the site, though clearly published, seem to follow the rule of clamour – no complaint, no action, and there are always the vociferous minority. As for Bill, I don't know him so would hesitate to guess at his editorial bias (right wing, Catholic?) but it's his house, so get with the programme, or move on. It is a free Webworld because you don't have to come here. |

FYI, Bill is not a Catholic, he is a Mormon. |

Your "idea" certainly has merit… but If the editorial staff have to enforce something, then it is no longer an "idea". It has become a rule. I am guilty of this behavior. Im sorry, I just cant resist being the snarky blind guy. You have my permission to Stifle and Ignore me. The editor (may he live forever in marrital bliss) went to a lot of trouble to bring these options to life. You should use these tools instead of herding cats. ymmv, RC |

I don't know him so would hesitate to guess at his editorial bias (right wing, Catholic?) FYI, Bill is not a Catholic, he is a Mormon. I did put a question mark. I didn't know he was a Mormon, so thank you. It explains quite a bit. |
Great War Ace | 30 Oct 2014 10:46 a.m. PST |
Does it? Mitt Romney is a Mormon. So is Senator Orrin Hatch. And majority leader Harry Reid. Mia Love is likely to become Utah's Congressional District Four representative, and she's Haitian by parentage (born here, though), Black, a woman and a Mormon. Kick this thread where it belongs…. |

I'm just suspicious of anyone who thinks 'God' is on their side. 'Pixies in the sky' and all that. I'm afraid you're barking up the wrong tree – I'm Not against a religion, I'm against superstition and all religions. I believe in science and because of that I'm prepared to be proved wrong, which is generally more than can be said for the other side of the argument. |

I think that war gaming is stupid, but I do it anyway. Lots of things are stupid but we do them anyway. That is because "being stupid" is not mutually exclusive, there are other factors to consider, like friendships and family relationships and community benefits. "This is how it has always been done", defines most of what homo sapiens do…. |

Of course it's just his opinion and I was expressing mine in reaction to his statement. That's the purpose of this site. |

why, it's just his opinion, and far worse opinions are regularly voiced about many things here on TMP.
How does the malignity of many one statement make a difference for that of another? |

I find Slappy's initial proposal to be reasonable, rational, well-mannered and rational. As a result, I despair of ever seeing it put into practice, here or on any other wargaming forum anywhere else. For my part, Slappy, I will at least try to support your proposal by example. |
