Overdaedge: Here is my complete collection of 54mm post-apoc figures; all are conversions of Bronze Age Miniatures -- the clothes, weapons and armor were added using green stuff, plastic, model bits, brass and twine. I use them to play some post-apoc gladiator games, but I'll be adding to the collection to play the upcoming Rogue Planet Sci-fi-fantasy skirmish game:

Gorgeously weird figures – great, imaginative work and I love the freaky vibe. Reminds me of 70's sci-fi comics and book covers (as well as the masterful Brom) with your mixture of lush exoticism and the rich colour palette. BTW, how did you make the tyrannosaur-gorrila beast? That is just so awesomely freaky, like something from a Gor bookcover. Is it a conversion using, for example, Papo & Schleich animals, or an actual miniature? |
evilcartoonist | 30 Oct 2014 10:30 a.m. PST |
Thanks, TwinMirror- Brom was definitely one of the main inspirations. The tyranno-gorilla beast is just that (almost): I took a toy allosaurus (I think by Carnegie or Safari Ltd.), sawed off the head and put it on the gorilla (maybe Schleich; I don't remember). I covered up the seams (and added the spines) using greens stuff. Then I painted it up using African Wild Dog markings for the pattern. |

It totally works, too. If it was in the dungeonmaster's guide, it would be a total classic monster. I love making monsters, too – and this is exactly the vibe I'm going for in the new rpg I'm currently making. If you don't mind, evilcartoonist, I may have to make a carnosaur-simian hybrid of my own! |
evilcartoonist | 30 Oct 2014 5:07 p.m. PST |
Do it! Carnosimian! (Note, on my conversion, there is about an inch of allosaur neck along with its head.) |
TwinMirror | 31 Oct 2014 9:46 a.m. PST |
Cool, I shall birth the monstrosity! The neck on your mighty beast definitely works best by using the allosaur's own as the base…especially with the african wild dog look, the rangy neck with well-defined tendons is much better suited than the thickset neck of a gorilla. Somewhere I have a tyranno-bear (standing bear body, tyrannosaur head with lots of scraggly hair) I made some years ago…it's ok, but your monster works better. I took the ill-advised decision of giving it big googly eyes for a 40's pulp feel, but it doesn't quite work in 3D the way it does on those pulp magazine covers…the effect makes it look like a man in a suit, rather than a creature with an entirely different body structure. Back to the worktable! |

Here are some more angles on my allorilla: Edit: Despite that little center crest, this IS an allosaurus head. I added the crest with a little leftover green stuff when I was doing the conversion.
