"…Noble six hundred".

160 years on…

Still true!

Celebrate by rushing out and doing something foolhardy!

Perhaps wearing a "Cardigan"?

The "Order" was "Fool"ish – heartily!…

The response of the troopers?

PURE Bravery!

wink

The order was just incompetently written. The interpretation was stupid.

Did anybody see QI the other night? (current series on BBC, not the repeats on Dave). Fry produced a recording, made in 1890, of a trumpeter survivor of the charge playing the trumpet he'd played in the battle, and which had also been used at Waterloo. Evidently the recording was made as a charity effort for relief of charge survivors. A proper 'band aid'!

Joppyuk, I saw that, it was incredible. I think the recording was made onto a wax disc. Even though it was over 100 years old you could hear the trumpet call quite clearly (and it sent shivers up my spine, to imagine the cavalry starting to surge forward as it was sounded).

… remember they did destroy the battery they thought was their target. Imagine what they'd have done if armed with Colt revolvers instead of armes blanche and a few singleshot pistols.
