"During AUSA 2014, General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems presented its GAU-19/B. This three-barrel .50 (12.7 mm) Gatling gun is adaptable on a multitude of platforms and can provide an heavy fire support. This weapon also benefits from a light weight, a minimal maintenance and a high reliability.

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems manufactures the lightweight GAU-19/B Gatling gun for application on a variety of air, land and sea platforms, including helicopters, fixed wing aircraft, land-based vehicles, naval vessels and high-speed patrol boats.
With a rate of fire of 1,300 shots per minute, the .50 caliber GAU-19/B provides superior firepower in a lightweight system. The total system weight (106 pounds) of the three-barrel GAU-19/B is neutral to that of a single-barrel machine gun and more than 30 pounds lighter than the GAU-19/A, an other three-barrel Gatling gun developed by General Dynamics mainly for aircraft armament. The simple, low-cost weapon system offers minimal maintenance and high reliability: GAU-19/B has an unmatched 40,000 mean rounds between failure. Initial scheduled maintenance begins at 35,000 rounds and the barrels replacement comes up between 35,000 and 50,000 rounds…"

I want one, could be quite the zombie killer, Forget the head shots wouldn't be much left to get you.

So it can shoot for about thirty minutes till you can expect to get a failure (and about that time will need to replace barrels).

That's still a lot of rounds downrange.

The barrels need replacing after 1.5 hours shooting. Each one only fires 1/3 of the shots.

50 cal is a GREAT weapon!

Put lots of rounds downrange at Ft Knox and at Graf.

Accurate, reliable, just all around fantastic weapon. There's a reason some weapons stick around for 100 yrs. It's very hard to improve on perfection :)

Plus you gotta love the handles and butterfly trigger.

I suggested one in .17 HMR for use as an urban street sweeper. Flat trajectory, high velocity, not a lot of penetrating power (unless an AP round is developed), but able to grind away at many structures' wooden components. Could keep roof edges cleared of unwanted observers/grenade droppers. Maybe a dozen-round burst limiter setting. Mounted in the cupola of a Humvee or an MRAP.
