Marvin the Martian! Very good.

Good AAR! Good point about avoiding the sweeps should have thought of that sooner since its the same tactic used in WW2 to avoid sweeping machine gun fire.

Gone Fishing22 Oct 2014 6:14 a.m. PST

I don't read many AAR's, but have really enjoyed these. I'll say again that I love that Marvin the Martian tripod--a twisted genius came up with that one!

I'm sorry if I missed this in a previous post, but I'm curious if you like the rules. I suppose you do on a certain level, as you're obviously playing them, but I guess what I'm asking is whether this project has been worth it for you. I'm tempted, you see…

Thanks for sharing!!

Daryl,
All my posts on this (5 at the moment) are up on the blog site, philsmartianfront.blogspot.com/, or you can use the navigation on the right. The rules are nice. I am not scrutinizing them over much like I would an actual historical game. They are balanced and they work. The game plays out in 2 hours and the figures are just fun to look at. The Martians paint up quick. Under coat of platinum or aluminum then highlights and black wash. And in my case, wiring the LED's.

And I'll tell my wife you said she was a twisted genius…

My buddies and I find it to be a really fun beer and pretzels style of game. House rules could make it a bit more crunchy and would be easily added to the existing book. Regardless, it looks incredibly cool when you are playing it and I am eagerly awaiting my big second box of goodies from the Kickstarter.

I wrote an in-house rule about water towers being confused as Tripods. link

Gone Fishing22 Oct 2014 8:12 a.m. PST

Hi Phil,

Thank you for the thoughts (and yours too, Nazrat). As regards your wife, I suggest dropping the word "twisted" and replacing it with "inspired"--it was really the word I was looking for!

The game sounds great. I like beer and pretzel type rules, so it could be a good fit for me.

Two last questions: Are the walkers hard to assemble? I assume you use a metallic spray for the walkers? If so, is there one you recommend?

Keep up the great work.

PHGamer22 Oct 2014 8:55 a.m. PST

No, I think I'll keep the word twisted…

Tripods are easy to assemble. I first run plastics through the dish washer (top shelf) to remove the mold release. Then a spray of primer. I use a light grey from Home Depot rather than the smaller (and more expensive) from the craft stores.

I painted the tripods with a 1/2 inch brush with a craft store bought platinum acrylic. Detail work with a 000 brush.

Oddly, I spray painted my steam tanks with an olive drab base.

Very Cool keep em comeing buddy, keep em comeing :)

nazrat23 Oct 2014 6:28 a.m. PST

Both the tripods and the tanks are easy-peasy assemblies. And solid models, for the most part.

Lion in the Stars23 Oct 2014 7:10 p.m. PST

@PHGamer: the work you did lighting the tripods was totally worth it, looks positively terrifying seeing those glowing eyes in the pictures!

Though I think someone may have been having too much fun when they decided to paint up one tripod as Marvin…
