Hi, guys!

I'm doing a little research for my university project. I hope you don't mind doing a fellow historial wargamer a favor and answering this little questionnaire I have.

Thanks in advance!

Tried to do it…would not let me pass the personality page. I triple checked to make sure I answered each question and I still could not pass.

It worked for me.

I'm afraid the premise of the survey didn't really make sense to me. I don't buy into whole game systems: I buy a variety of rules, figures for different periods from several publishers/manufacturers. I frequently modify rules, adapt them to other periods, and sometimes do the same for figures. Frequently a set of figures bought for one system will be used later for another.

I enjoy playing wargames, but don't associate that with any particular company – not least because with all the figure games that I do play there is a large element of personal involvement in the perparation of the whole thing.

What Advocate said.

My play is around historical periods not companies products. If I buy from company X it is because they sell the figures that I want, not because they are company X.

Makes no sense to me.

I don't buy 'wargames' designed by companies, I play wargames based on history. I've never actually bought from any of the companies listed.

I'm obviously not the kind of wargamer you want to survey.

Done, comments as above. In the writein I suggested substituting rules author for company.

As for toys and terrain, I don't buy game systems, I buy the toys and terrain I need/want/like and use them with various rules.

I don't understand. What miniature company?

daler240D22 Oct 2014 6:53 a.m. PST

done. I also thought the second page was confusing. it had an asterisk by "miniatures wargame company", but nothing that it referenced.

arthur181522 Oct 2014 8:02 a.m. PST

Done. And I agree with the other comments above: I buy what I like/what interests me because of what it is, not because of who makes it.

OSchmidt22 Oct 2014 8:25 a.m. PST

Done but Arthur1815's comments are mine also. Plus I don't by any miniature companies game, I write all my own rules. Further on the personality page ou should do a little to disguise the questions. For example you used polar opposites liberal/conservative and it's all too easy to avoid getting tripped up on that one.

Totally agree with the most of the comments above. Wargaming is not about "brand loyalty" it's about buying stuff you're interested in.

I completed it, but it is obviously a sci-fi/fantasy gamer poll and not a historical gamer poll. As others have said, unless you are new to historical wargaming and got drawn into the hobby by FOW, there really are no game systems, or brand loyalty, or whatever else. If someone makes something I want, and I think it is reasonably priced, I will buy it. I don't care who makes it.

Glengarry522 Oct 2014 11:43 a.m. PST

I didn't finish the second page because it made no sense to me.

I filled out the questionnaire. Disappointed to discover that it is meaningless twaddle.

Jemima Fawr23 Oct 2014 7:26 a.m. PST

I gave up, as it is utter ballhooks.

JimDuncanUK24 Oct 2014 7:52 a.m. PST

I could not answer some of the questions on page one with any honesty. Some of the words you have used mean different things in my country as opposed to yours.

Sorry I can't help you.

OSchmidt24 Oct 2014 8:50 a.m. PST

Not trying to be snarky Zenai 2020 but I don't think this is going to get you where you want.

For the most part miniature gamers are lead Bleeped texts. They'll buy whatever they like and look the other way when they have it on the table top if it forms a jarring contrast to what they have.

I assume you are researching brand loyalty. The only time I see this happening in the hobby Is when gamers are personal friends with dealers. Thus, for example, I'm good friends with Rick Massie and Dave Doty of DPC, this means I like to talk to them, it's fun to meet them three times a year at the major conventions and it means I'll usually drop a hundred bucks or so at their booth even though I might not need anything. What the heck, their stuff is among the best and it won't spoil and I'll use it sometimes and I'll support my friends. Same with Art Fosse for books (Aide De Camp) who can handle ferriting out really old, rare, and wild books for me, and Dennis Shorthouse at "On Military Matters."

Brands mean almost nothing to miniature gamers, but friendships and buddies mean everything to them and they will have tremendous loyalty to them. That's another thing I've noticed is one of the big differences between Board Gamers and Miniature Gamers. Board Gamers don't usually give a rats rear end about their opponents. They're in it for themselves. Miniature Gamers on the other hand like to goof around with their buddies and it's the beer, bad jokes, tall tales, food companionship and.. ummm er… oh yeah the game's in there too.

Thanks for your time, guys. Much appreciated.

I know the questionnaire doesn't exactly fit the unique situation miniature wargaming industry but take it as a questionnaire done by a newbie who based it on another research that he's basically trying to shoehorn his topic in. I learn much from this.

Sorry, would love to help but your survey is frankly, rubbish.
