This is a bizarre gaming scenario.

Yes, thanks for the memories … With my two tours on the DMZ 9-10 years after the fact, we were briefed about that incident frequently. Our Bn and Bde Cdrs' would repeatedly say, that will never happen again … And we preped for such an event along with a plethora of others. Two buildings at Cp Liberty Bell near the JSA are named after the two US officer's beaten to death, Capt. Bonifas and Lt. Barrett. The incident only made us have more hatred and anger for the North Koreans. To us it was no game … link

That is crazy. I've never heard of that incident, and the fact that two Americans were axed to death is pretty infuriating.

I'm more than a little surprised no punitive actions were taken.

Other than anti-tree, of course.

I remember seeing the axe when we visited the DMZ during my time working in Pyongyang.

I was in basic training when this happened. Some of the training cadre knew the officers who were killed and told us that we would likely end up as infantry replacements in the Second Korean War.

Here's another day I remember well in '84 along the "Z". You may not heard of. link

I remember that too, Legion. We were in the field when the order came to lock and load, move the tanks north and load all the reserve ammo on the trucks. We knew something was up, especially with all the ROK traffic, but we didn't get the details until that night.

Yes, Cold Steel, IIRC you & I were in the ROK at about the same time.

Warlock, I remember the Norks Tunneling under the Z. The US and ROKs had TNTs, Tunnel Neutralization Teams just for the detection of those. At least one or two were discovered, IIRC. old fart

While I'm pretty sure Pakistan takes the cake for insanity, "dee-perk" is right up there.

Norks have a version of "insanity" all their own … 2 tours on the Z and 22 months incountry with a forward deployed Mech Bn made that pretty clear to me … How's about at 03:00 the Norks blasting Madonna music at our Guard Posts, Warrior Base & 4P1 across the Z … huh?

I remember this story. It pretty much told me all I needed to know about "Best Korea".
